I've noticed that if I hold the throttle 1/2 open while hitting the starter it will spring to life when it's cold outside a lot faster than any other position I've tried.
18* in the morning--low 30's on the way home.

Mine seems to like 1/4 throttle. It also likes running a few minutes just a little throttle for a minute or two.

Mine starts just as good in these 15*F mornings as it does with the 70*F mornings, just adjust your carb to compensate for the winter temps, you aren't supposed to need throttle when starting. It will start on the second/third kick, or after a couple tries with the electric.

That's exactly why I use 1/2 throttle, so I don't have to use multiple attempts with the starter. ;D

even here in the warm Puerto Rico it does get cold at night and in the early mornings its hard to start. I also put the throttle at about 1/4 to 1/2 and starts up quick.
