The kickstarters on scooters do not seem to move the engine over much and are very wimpy . Every time I kicked my scooter I was noid it would break so I used my left leg instead of right . S o I had an idea , would a rip cord like on a push lawn mower be adapted to work ?
I was cutting grass for a client and ran out of gas with only a 10 feet square piece left . She said I could finish with her mower . Well this one did not have a rip cord to start it . This one had a coil spring you wound up a few clicks then released the spring tension and wala it started . I thought it was neat and a good design and still the only one I have seen . I think the coil spring is much better and not prone to issues like cord ripping on pull start . I know I hate 2T weedeaters that are hard to start .
So what do you think about having a wind up starter instead of kick start ?

I'm sure if you have some welding skills you can make anything you want. The ratchet for the standard 139qmb crankcase cover is pretty easy to weld to some other assembly. Personally, if I have to use the kickstart, I like that I don't have to bend over to do it. Just a flip with my toe and the pedal comes out, then a few kicks. Another flip and the pedal is put away. I don't think I'd like to bend over to either pull a starter cord or twist a starter spring, but that's just me. It might keep the side of the CVT cover looking a bit nicer without the kickstart pedal sticking out.

I just wish the kickstarter was a 3/4 gear instead of 1/2. I think what would make it a little easier

Scooter kickstarts are not good and do not turn over the engine as much and too wimpy , thats why I thought of ways to mod it .
Could one replace 1/2 moon gear with 3/4 ?
My brothers HD was so tough he would jump up in the air to kick it , 1200 Sportster .
I had a Honda XR 500 with compression release cable broke do a compression kick back that flipped me over the bike . I have also got kick starter to hit back of my leg , so thats why I prefer to wear boots instead of shoes , the arm is held by the heel instead of having a flat bottom shoe that can slip and OUCH to your calf .

I guess if there is physically enough space then why not replace the gear with a larger one? The only thing is you WILL have to support the CVT cover somehow. Most likely you'd have to weld in a support that would keep the case from cracking.
You could also weld on a fitting that would allow you to start the motor with a drill like they do on Formula 1 racers.

Some GY6 150 Atvs have a pull start, It doesn't look like the bolt holes on the cvt cover would line up. Looks like an extra short case motor.
