I am the most accident prone rider on the forum I swear. I JUST got over breaking my collarbone.
Im leaving work, forgot something, went to turn and used front brake like an idiot for no reason.... and over I went hehe, rolled about 3 times before I knew what happened, just banged myself up good, no broken bones. Crashed doing maybe 5 mph hehe.

Glad your ok, I've had quite a few unexpected stunts myself like not seeing a speed bump and going 45+ lol, thankfully I landed it though. I only have front brakes on my scoot so i know how bad those can be at times hehe.

Whew.....Glad you posted this. I didn't even think of that. One month new to scooters now. Took me two weeks to get used to not shifting and braking with my feet. So used to down shifting to reduce speed in a turn. Now this. Shattered my left rotator cuff in July, four-wheeler,so still a little protective and don't use rear break often. I'll be a lot more observant now, until it becomes second nature. I don't need another implant,... Thanks for the heads up, I owe you one. Loren

Hi Im very relieved and happy that you are safe and well Every one should take a MSF course every few years to keep your driving skills up to par, i do online2.msf-usa.org/msf/Default.aspxI found this guide to be quite helpful when i got my Puma, www.motor-scooters-guide.com/support-files/scooter-driving-tips.pdfBefore her i mainly rode my motorcycle, 2009 Indian Chief and a motorized schwinn bicycle Scoots, mopeds and motorized bikes are a totally different beast handling and performance wise compared to motorcycles Last scoot i had until now i had was in the 70's Boy they sure have changed alot Take care and drive safely dear friend Yours Hank

Lol, I nearly had an accident using my front brake, me and my friend were on our Chinese scooters going to college, before arriving at college, there is a steep downhill with traffic lights at the bottom, I was going to fast, slammed my front brake on and the front wheel just locked up cause the ground was wet as well.
Amazingly I didn't come off, I could either crash into the car in front, crash in to back of my friends scooter or crash into a hedge that was on the right side if the road.
Thankfully I crashed into the hedge which brought me to a complete stop, no damage to scoot and no damage to me.

Every post like this is a good reminder to me of how easy it is to get into the pleasure of the minute and forget how quickly and easily it can become horiffic. Thanks to all for their stories. Heres to a lot of safe scooting. Makes me wonder about all the talk of speed - often by people who obviously know little or nothing about the machines they are riding. Maybe we ought to have a safty test you have to pass before anyone would talk to you about how to get it to run faster than 5 miles an hour. I still limp from a small sandy rut at 2 mph 2 weeks ago. And I had work boots on And I now and then see people riding barefooted. thanks for the thread. Please start more. Cheers lefty2

Most of the mishaps I've had I looked like a cartoon character lol. Speed bumping roadkill was probably my most comical moment. I was being tailgates once and I took a turn to quick and ended up going in a 3 foot drainage ditch and ramped up the other side of it into a bush lol. Funny stories aside its definitely good to be safe than sorry. Best advice I learned when I was about 15 was to never ride in the middle of the lane and stay off the street paint since those are the slipperiest spots at anytime of the day or weather.

No front brakes while turning......I made a turn this morning. It was a right turn, I went wide, and before I knew it bounced off the center flower median, dumped myself on the right side, broke my mirror off, and scraped the heck outta both my knees, while wearing my nursing scrubs. I dont know if I used the front brake or accelerated while turning, all I know is I felt like a dern fool. Ive been riding scooters for 3 days now. Thinking I need a bit more practice before I go take any tests. (My knees are freaking killing me now, not just the road rash, but just landing on them didnt feel real good. I got a full face nice helm & Scorpion Exo jacket with pads...need to invest in some pants with knee pads if Im gonna keep doing that.)

There is nothing wrong with using the front brake in a turn. I do it all the time. It is a skill everyone should learn.
It is only a problem if you USE TOO MUCH FRONT BRAKE IN A TURN.
Too much rear brake in a turn will also put you down.

people need to do 2 things to become as good as rider as me.
1. ride defensively for 20 yrs. 2. ride defensively for 20 yrs.
SPEED KILLS BOYS AND GIRLS but young people always liked to go fast im sure the 2nd person on wheels tried to go faster than the 1st
ask me, i did a 'superman' 26 yrs ago {before they were popular }
right now i am at the point of 'well i dont care if i live im old & tired but i dont want to end up having a conversation by blinking my eyes

Personally, I don't care if I'm late. I take my time and have fun riding. Stress kills. Speed kills quickly.
