Btw, I just tested the battery by removing the smaller bulbs (W5W 12V) and disconnecting the (HSI 12V 35/35W) bulbs. The battery held steady at 5 bars.
Any ideas?

A lot of people are probably mulling this over. There are a number of possibilities here. Load testing the battery itself would be my first thing, then checking the output from the stator. If the stator seems OK, then the regulator is suspect.

Could be a number of things but one thing for sure is they use high wattage bulbs on these trikes. Some of us have taken and put LED all around and now have power to spare. Even the low beams, one one each side pulls 55 watts, oluss has 2 wedge lights on each side. Turn the high beams on and 210 watts and you still have running lamps on the rear and turn signals. Lee in AR can really give you some good information on this but knowing him, he is on some other project right now

Nice job presenting the problem. But I am not sure what is the problem? First, you know the charging rate a idle is much less than at riding RPM don't you?.So what you are showing may be normal. But it may be faster than it should be. Without a load test you really do not know if the battery is good or not. Go to a battery shop and have them test the battery capacity. So what is the problem? If it being ridden does it seem OK? Keep the lights bright and the battery full or near full? If you shut it down witha full battery will it start it the next morning. It is a small battery and a small charginf circuit and the lights are not led an thus not very efficient. Let us know. Cheers lefty2

Crazyd: Sorry I have stayed out of the fracas. I got sick and tired of the "DON'T BUY AN IB" thread. I'm just not in to these whinning and crying over peoples purchase problems. Instead of learning and helping others they just wanted to b**** about the same thing over and over. I hear one of our best members got booted so I elected to leave as well. Lefty was and is one of the most knowledgable that was on this forum and to remove him was tragic for many. OK off the soap box now. I'm assuming you have a Magnum 300 with 4 sets of lights in the housing...am I correct? If so the low beams are 2x 55 watt (but not all are 55 some are 35 watt). Mine stock would not keep up with amperage demand. I replaced the low beams with LED and problem was solved. I run my low beams all the time for day time driving lights. My recommendation would be to pull the two low beams and see if they are 55 watt. If they are put in 35 watt ones and you more than likely will be ok. The low beams are H-1 type and can be found on ebay everywhere. PM me if you need any one on one guidance... an inexpensive volt gauge is a great way to freely sample what is happening with your charge system. Look back thru some of the earlier 300 magnum posts and there is some more info on the lights and the volt gauge. I'm here to help you anyway I can. vr, Lee

IMNTS2 Forgot, I unplug the low beam bulbs and use the little wedge bulbs for running in the day time and the high beams for night riding. Your battery will stay charged and I did riding in FL, AR,Ok and never once got stopped. Try that till you make LED updates.
Lee I too may be leaving this fourm after what happen to Lefty. There are many upset about all this and others that feed on it.

I know it's been a while but I ran all the test suggested and found that the problem was the headlights and 3 bad batteries.
Still have the same headlights. I am looking to see what LED lights I can change them out with.
Changed the battery to a MagnaPower AGM type. While the headlights still draw an awful lot of power, the new battery will drop down to 12.60 volts and hold there. the minute I throttle up, the battery voltage goes back up as well. No more kick starts at long red lights or just sitting at idle.
I am keeping a battery tender on the battery when the trike is not in use.
Thank you all for the help and if anyone knows which LED headlights will work on an ICE BEAR PST150-C. I would appreciate the info.
David

new to forum what happen to lefty??? Hello and welcome! As to what happened to Lefty, I truly don't know. I wish I did. If it was posted I sure did miss it. I do know he is missed by many...as are others that are no longer here. Knowing what little I know about lefty, I'm sure he is on some other forum helping others.
