Hey all, I'm David. I just bought a 2008 250cc Shenke Scooter. This is an upgrade from a 50cc scoot. I'm riding daily 140 miles round trip. Looking forward to interacting with everyone here on the board.

Thank you for the info. I'm still trying to find out more info about my Shenke. I know that it's not charging while running. Have to keep it on the float when parked. Looking for info on parts and maybe a new stator.

At 140 miles per day I would get rid of it while its still sellable and get something more reliable.

If you need to drive 140 miles/day you'll find that you can't afford the one you got. After it breaks down for good it will be just that much harder to buy the one you say you cannot afford. One member just bought a kymco 250 for $2100. Be much cheaper to own that in the long run. Something to shoot for. Make it happen.

Yeah, I totally hear what you are saying but my other vehicle is a Ford E-150 Van. I only had a limited amount of resources and could not afford to drive my van 140 miles a day at 8 gallons round trip. 8 gallons x 3.89 / gallon = $31 per day. That comes out to Almost $700 per month. I had to do something. At least until my new sales job starts making money.

I've got the same body with a 150 in it. Drive it every day, but only 12 miles. Haven't had anything go wrong with it yet except the muffler being old. Coulda continued with it as it was, but I love to tinker. Over 6000 China miles so far.

Hello Dave, lucky you, I'm stuck with a 50! A big scooter probably wouldn't suit me because I also ride motorcycles and the reason I went with a scooter is because of the total lack of decent little bikes offering the same fuel economy and carrying capacity. Boy I wish Honda still made the step thru Cub 50...oh well, my Jonway is close in terms of practicality and neat looks.

Thank you. 1 week into having my scooter and I'm already having to work on it. haha. Having charging/electrical issues. Do you have an alarm or remote start? They are well known to drain the little scooter batteries. If your battery is over 3 years old, you probably need a new one. The very best scooter cannot charge a weak battery. There is not one vehicle out there that does not have some kind of scheduled maintenance. Reliability usually involves the operator learning or paying for this maintenance.

I removed the alarm because I did not have the remote for it. The problem I was having with charging was the R/R. I replaced it which failed again after working perfectly for about 500 miles. I have just about had it with this thing. Maybe save for a couple years and get a Honda 750cc.

Hi I agree No matter the brand you have to properly maintain and service them Ive been riding 2 wheels for over 40 years and have driven and owned most of the major and minor brands Have an Indian chief, Puma scoot and a motorized bike at the moment Higher end products just mean higher expenses when things go wrong And they do go wrong no matter the brand make no mistake Take care and drive safely Yours Hank

Yeah, I know how to work on engines I just like to ask a lot of questions before tackling a new design than I'm used to. I am a stickler to regular maintenance. I just don't like the regular repairs.
