Fall can make you fall.
When those leaves start falling and get wet from rain showers even after the road dries the leaves retain moisture and they are very very slick.
Whats worse is that at night they can be almost invisible, so please remember this if you are a new rider.
I learned this the hard way when my Kawasaki Mach 3 dumped me one autumn.

Leaves of any sort. I was doing a buck something on a Kawasaki triple and I think I hit a leaf. I ended up going down and crashing into a redwood tree. At a buck something. Yee-ouch. Dry road. Just one stupid leaf. At least, I suspect it was a leaf. I did spot a few in the road before everything went all song of the sausage creature and there was squealing screeching metal and the smell of searing human flesh.
Stupid trees... First they have sex with us by shooting pollen up our noses and then they try to kill us with leaves. Smarmy bastards!

mykul my fear in life is grocery bags. at least there white, dang leave are camouflage Ah, here is truth. A shopping bag, airborn, drifting on currents and then clinging to a wet helmet visor is a moment of sheer terror of the white knuckle variety.

I have found that if it is wet or slippery outside(I sometimes will ride in the winter when the streets LOOK DRY) that if the road has a sharp curve and you take it to fast the front wheel has a tendency to slide out a little. When that happens just back off the throttle and your back in control and all this time the rearend stay put and I have yet had the rearend slide out on me. Lefty

Lefty Lefty, if you keep up these logical and informative posts, I will be forced into trying a trike scooter some day. Perhaps soon. I never thought I'd even like the scooter as much as I do, so the future is open to anything. Maybe even goofy looking scoots with full farings that look like stealth fighters. But let's not be hasty on that last one.

Ya, now a friend of mine, broke his foot, when riding in the rain and hit a patch of leaves. He swore up and down, the leaves done it. But I had my doubts. See, it was raining hard and he was frightened to hold his lane position so other vehicles could not squeeze him to one side of the road. So he was riding in the gutter with the leaves verses holding lane position. So he turned to enter a gas station, but was going at the turn in to sharp of a angle and that caused his front tire to not grip the blacktop, which caused him to slide and crash. The leaves did not help, because once sliding that leaves are great for keeping one sliding. But if he had came in to the turn in straighter, that accident could have been avoided. You must maintain your lane position and not allow cars to squeeze you out of it.

as most often is the case i am with lefty......it struck a cord as where i live we have -oaks , elms and maples all over the place....at about this time of the year the town begins to gather////they use big plows to push the leaves on a given block to the nearest corner.
we just had a storm here in the northeast.....the plows get most but not all the leaves especially when it wet on the roads,,,,,,so i handle with throttle control.....never throttle up through a patch of wet leaves....problem more sever in evening when more difficult to see...
what really scares me is gravel that accumulates after a rain from drainage.....you can see leaves but gravel is virtually invisible...
