Today I rode around and looked at forkoil as I was thinking of trying a thicker oil prior to fork or spring replacement . The ride is good to 50 mph and uhoh above 60 mph . I had rear shocks at softest spring rate and now I am at the middle and it rides so much different and still have room to firm it up if desired . The max load weight on my scooter is 330 lbs and I am 200 and 99 % percent of the time I ride solo . I have had 3 dif passengers so far with one around my weight , well I went 60 MPH up a megahill and was not @ WOT . I am going to do more testing with this spring rate as it starting raining just as Scooter Guru Peter finished the left shock , which is close to the airbox while the right has no obstructions when adjusting it . I prefer the suspension to be firm but not over stiff so it handles better with the sad joke of roads here in SC . After more field tests I am gonna see how it rides at maximum spring tension , but I am guessing in the middle will be best overall setting .
Has anyone here replaced the oil and or springs in the forks ? You can get thicker oil , springs or compress spring which I think is bad . I was in a lowered car via spring clamps and one broke almost causing a wreck and roadside removal of the good one since was around 2 inch dif from stock ride height . I wish the forks were gas or air . My CR125 had nitrogen forks but I put compressed and filtered air in them when I was going to jump a 12 foot hill on the trails nearby . I would get so high that when I landed I would get such a recoil that awkward and sometimes required a footplant and WOT to make a hard 90 degree turn to avoid going into the street . I would go around 50 MPH to get around 10 feet or so in the air with only 70 feet of dirt to land and turn as was too short to stop if zooming . Yes I was a teenager then and bulletproof unlike these days .
I am also interested in feedback on experiences of upgrading rear oil shocks to nitrogen with adjustable spring over as well as any fork upgrades other than exact replacements . Thanks ahead of time and I hope others can learn from this too
