Hey Folks. I have had my MC 54b for a couple months. The muffler on it is an old supertrapp that the previous owner cobbled together and has seen better days. The other day it unceremoniously spit its guts out onto the road and I was left with basically a straight pipe exhaust that was loud as heck and cried out "Hey! Look at the fat guy on the scooter!" So, I started looking for a replacement but was not really excited about what seems to be available. I wanted it to be quiet, and I dont want to re-jet the carb just yet. Also, I dont have much of a budget. I decided to make one, and fiddled around with some designs and a little math to make an effective reactive muffler that would be quiet but not too restrictive. I came up with a design, the materials cost less than $50 and it took me a couple hours to make. I used 4" exhaust pipe from Jegs, 1"ID EMT conduit, and some 16 gauge steel from home depot. The muffler uses 2 baffles and a chamber at each end. I have enough material left to make a couple more, and may fool around with the design, maybe calculate for a Helmholtz resonator or something. I will work on making some plans to post on here if anyone is interested. Put it on today, and it is awesome. nice and quiet, with a nice deep sound at idle. The scoot is actually running much better and I suffered very little if any loss to my high end. I am going to have to paint it before too long, but I couldnt wait to try it out. Well done! If I could weld, I think I'd enjoy making custom exhausts for scoots & motorcycles. There's lot of demand, but would probably have to charge too much for the market out there.
As a hobby it would be fun though - I just can't afford the hobby!

I learned a lot from my own exhaust build... and it got the wheels turning. I now have like 3 or 4 different designs I want to play with.
time and money.

Does your Supertrapp have the discs so you can tune it ? I wondered how EMT would work since cheap and light unless its rigid . I saw a Harley with two into one Supertrapp omg it sounded so good I turned off my radio in car when it pulled up beside me . I priced for friend Harley and wow several hundred dollars .

Nah the Supertrapp that was on there was put there by the previous owner and was pretty haggard. I had to weld it just to keep it together when I first got the scoot. The innards were shot and the scoot sounded like an obnoxious lawn mower. I was a little concerned about using the EMT as well, but it is cheap. It actually worked great, welded well and was very easy to work with. Just be very careful when welding on it because it is coated with zinc and when it burns is very toxic. Grind it off or use a weld hood. I have a hood and it just burned away like the aluminizing on the 4" exhaust that I used for the main tube. Had the muffler on the scoot for 10 days and it is holding up so far. I absolutely have to paint it this weekend. weather here in ohio has been so nice this week I spent time riding rather than working on it, so it has a few rusty spots to blast off ha.

Nice job.
Would love to see some basic plans if you ever decide to draw any up.
Is your engine the 257cc or the 244cc ?

I just used a mig to weld it all together. Went pretty easy. I will find the drawing that I made and get it up here. My scoot has the 257 Linhai in it.
