Hi, Everyone!
49 year-old ex-New Yorker living in Rural Kentucky, here! I found this forum a few days ago, and am addicted to it! I love things that go vroommmmmmm (or even "pfffttttt") and I love dogs! -So this is the place for me!
I'm just about to purchase my first scooter. I live out in the boonies, and want something just for occasional joyrides and maybe (if I get brave) occasional rides to the big town 17 miles away. Looking to get a 49cc and doing some mods so I can get it to run 40MPH on flat ground and at least 30 up hills...and I'm 215 lbs. so I don't know if this is feasible...but we will see!
I know...I should probably be getting a Ninja 250 or a Harley or something...but the appeal of the 49cc scooter to me is not having to have a motorcicle endorsement and not having to have it registered or insured....like my name suggests, I like freedom!
Also thinking the small size would come in handy sometimes if I want to transport the scoot in my full-size van.
I've hesitated on ordering the scoot, as it seems a little crazy for the use I have planned for it...but then again, I can try, and if it doesn't work out, I'm sure I can sell it for close to what I paid for it (Did that with a couple of Chinese ATVs and even made a small profit!)
So you can see, I really appreciate all the info on this forum. I'm good mechanically (Have done just about everything you can do to cars and trucks- including rebuilding engines) but I'm not too knowledgeable about small engines....but I learn quickly with the advice and info on these forums!
Ciao, -Richie

40mph on flats and 30 uphill is very achievable for a 50cc. I am about 20lbs lighter and my stock scooter will do those speeds. You can probably get those speeds simply by jetting the carb. and changing the CVT roller weights. You have realistic goals and a 50cc sounds perfect.
Im sure you will love the freedom of a small scooter. Maintainance is easy and parts are very cheap.

Hello, Terra and Pony!
Cool song, Terra! Hehe...set just the right mood! Can't remember the last time I head a Leon Russell song!
Pony, thanks for the encouragement! I was thinking maybe I was off base wanting to acheive that with a 50cc.
Roller weights and jetting are on my list! (Do I want to go with lighter than stock rollers...or heavier?)- Was also thinking performance exhaust and a ported and polished head.....eh?
If that's all I'd have to do to have a zippy scooter....you're right, it'll be a blast!
