When I am putting around the block , and more so when its hot I do not wear my helmet . If I have to get on a main road with lots of traffic I religiously wear my fullface helmet . I trust myself and know about "oops " and " hey watch this " mishaps , but Im more in danger from people in cars than myself . I only like fullface style as one saved the right side of my face in a wreck . I am ugly enough and helmet much cheaper than face or head replacement lol . Openface is soso ( just not my prefferance) but I hate to see those turtle shell ( my name for those wacky helmets that only cover the top with no side coverage ) they look wack and do not offer no where near the protection . Most wrecks I have seen the rider lands on side or back of head not striking top of head .
Most pep I see on scooters do not wear helmets here . Under 18 is required over 18 optional but suggested.
I was wondering if riders in this forum wear a helmet or not or sometimes . Thanks

I recently got a half scooter helmet. I bought what I could afford off craigslist. I usually just wear it at night. Colorado Springs has painted a lot of bike lanes lately. I use them to cruise around town. Im sure I should wear the helmet all the time but its hot right now. Im sure I will always wear it in the winter.

Ever stand up under an open cabinet door? Hurts pretty good don't it, and there was no traffic. All it takes is one little oily spot and some gravel. Don't even have to be going fast. Or a car to run a stop sign. If it doesn't happen, great. If it does good thing you were wearing your helmet huh? Same with gloves. Fall over in your driveway and the first thing to hit the ground is your hands.
Minimum Helmet, Gloves, and jeans is how I roll.

I ALWAYS wear at least my half-helmet, sometimes a full-face during cold weather. Ya never know.

Used to HATE helmets, period! But now at my age, riding at night or if there's a chance of a sprinkle or two, I put it on. Night time brings out all the bugs and that sprinkle does sting my face. Having said that, I don't wear one if it's daytime and the sun is shining.

I wear a full face helmet every time I ride a scooter. And 95% of the time, I also wear an armored jacket.
In the spring, I was on a ride with some friends, and I hit some gravel in the middle of a corner and went down at like 10mph.
Scraped my arm up, had a gash all the way to the bone on my elbow. Took a month and a half to heal (they couldn't stitch it because the road rash around the gash was so bad). In that time, I had to clean the gash twice a day (ouch) and change the dressing twice a day (gross) and put on a cream that cost $130 2 weeks worth (ouch on the wallet).
For what that one little 10mph fall cost - the emergency room visit, the medicine, the gause/tape/wraps, the two weeks off work - I could have bought a riding jacket and a brand new Sym or Kymco or even a nice used Vespa.
I don't care if I look like an idiot all dressed up to ride a 50cc scooter, I'm not going to go though all that again...

YES I wear a helmet, full face modular. Also, gloves, jacket, boots, jeans.
If you don't think you should wear one, go outside and bang your head against the pavement and see then if you think you should wear one. I slipped in the garage while moving a 900 lb. Harley and it fell on my knee so it's messed up for life. Having the skin peeled back ain't no fun and that was a still accident, not rolling. As for a helmet being hot right now, buy one with 18 vents like my GMax 54s. Still, sweat looks better than blood!
Read in the local news a while ago, man wrecked his Harley, died and wasn't wearing a helmet. See these all the time here in this non helmet law state of SC! I happen to want to live and will do whatever possible to protect myself.

5 Weeks ago I went down with some gravel and broke my collar bone pretty bad. But I was wearing my full face helmet and it saved my life. My helmet hit hard and cracked. But that could have been my life so it was worth it.
Considering how much my medical bills are I could have purchased a brand new Honda Ruckus straight from the dealer and ready to go.

This is my helmet I use was 90 dollars , which is really cheap as some can be several hundred like Arais can be . I like how I have several vents up front and one in back .All can open or closed independently , and when its real hot I have visor open a lil to increase airflow since I am always hot .I also wear safety glasses over my eyeglasses , I know it may sound a lil overkill , but wait till you get a bug or rock hit you at WOT , ouch ! . A helmet should be just right and a lil snug not too loose . I loose one could fly off if chinstrap not fastened . I almost learned the hard way that a fullface unstrapped and you hit a big bump that the part over your mouth can go over your eyes blocking your view . In winter or rain a helmet makes it much less of a bummer in bad weather . I rode a Hurricane ( renamed Honda CBR ) I was zooming so fast that water squirted out both eyes so much I had to stop since my vision was so blurry I could not go on till I wiped with my shirt .In the winter gloves can be your best friends . I have worn sandals for around the block only , normally real shoes or my Timberlands , gotta love steel toe ,heel and bottom ( nailproof) boots .Heavy but safe and nice if you gotta kick a dog away or a mean person .Note I am not an animal abuser , but I refuse to get bitten . Here in FL, you need at least $20k in medical coverage on your bike, or health insurance through your work or whatever in order to not have to wear a helmet. If you're pulled over and the cop discovers you have insufficient coverage, you can be given a ticket.

It was only last month some guy leading an anti helmet ride was killed. Yet the cops, the doc says he would be alive today if he had wore it. Since I already have post concussion sysdrum let me state if your lucky you might walk away from being hit but if you get a concussion and it doesn't go away like me you ll reget it. Any force on the head above 200 G cause damage to the brain. Without your helmet you ll end up with some brain damage. Mine from just being hit with a min excavator. In a bike wreck you ll more then likely scramble your brain to some to degree when it hit the pavement. Every time I ve gone down I hit my head. So would you like to have the problems I ve got just by not wearing a hard hat helmet at work? Bypolar depression, Head acks that never goes away, Lose of words and the spelling of them. Shuddering etc. If you want to chance being spoon feed, not being able to understand due to brain damage that these are you kids and wife go for it. Those are the risks you are taking. You can say its not going to happen but getting hit is going to happen to you sooner or latter. The odes are 1 in 33 compared to 1 in 100 for being in a car. Over in advrider.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=17 you can read of everything from a lawn mower ridden by a city employee in LA hitting a biker to donkeys causing crashes. Even one guy done in by a walnuts tree dropping a sh!t load of nuts on a back road. No joking nor wear they kids that hadn't been riding all that long. If I wanted to put this is money term unless your Canadian and don't have pay for your injuries do you want to risk bills that bankrupt you? Also take a look at this link that show a 3d scan of the damage of not wearing a helmet . Right now you can find top of the line nolan filip up helmets for 150 to 200 bucks. IRon pony , motorycycle super store etc all sell last years models cheaplly. up to 90% off with 50% off gear being the normal. www.flickr.com/photos/roentgenator/2450912496/[/youtube]www.flickr.com/photos/roentgenator/2450912496/

Yes a full face with a shield. I once hit a bird with my throat at 65 on a motorcycle. Laugh but I couldn't breath for a few minutes, if that would of hit me in the eye I've no doubt I would have lost it. How many have had a windshield chipped by a rock, now think of your face.

I wear a "turtle shell" helmet (1/2 helmet). I stick to <45mph roads... otherwise, I would go full face.

Helmets have saved my head many times from skateboarding and biking. The worst scaring I have is from a time I wasn't wearing a helmet, but didn't hit my head (so lucky). I have bad road rash scars on my right arm from a 30mph crash on a mountain bike. I went over the bike and somehow landed entirely on my right arm and shoulder on which I skidded to a stop.
I just got my scooter, but I wear a helmet every time I hit the trails on my mountain bike. I'm not a fan of full face. I have some muscle memory for landing on my dome from the amount of times I've wiped out on a bike.

fullface is just too overkill for just scooter riding...i'd wear a fullface if i ride a hayabusa or other extremely fast two wheeled vehicle...IMO

I wear a helmet...always have and will continue to do so. Been riding for almost 30 years, no heavy hits to my "celebrated cranium". Primarily full faced helmets, only 3 years ago started wearing 1/2 Helmets, which have "reawakened" my love of motorcycling. 1/2 helmet (Carbon fibre "Beanie") may mean less coverage, less protection, but if you wear it always because it is comfortable and convenient, while keeping you warmer in the colder weather, but keeps you cooler and alert in the summer, it is doing it's job...means you will more likely visit us here at Scooter Dawg for a long time to come

Even my "little" scooter will go 70 MPH. I really don't think the road will care if I take and off on a scooter or a motorcycle so I wear a FF. My husband took a slow speed (5-10 MPH) dump off his motorcycle and had a big scuff across the chin bar of his FF. He didn't want to wear a FF when he started back to riding. After that he saw why I was so big on that style.

no amount of helmet can protect you more than Prayers, ..i always pray before i go to ride my scooty., and i bring a Rosary with me always....i know some people are allergic to prayers, but pls just try, pray one hail mary, one our father and one glory be to the father,,,and you'll be safe....promise!
now,if you are possessed by a bad spirit,(like someone i know), you need to hear mass every sunday.,,and do it regularly. hope this helps.

Yes, some States don't require helmets. But me, I where a helmet because my State does require a helmet to be worn.. I would wear a helmet, even if my State did not require it, because helmets save lives.

I wear a Sparx brand FF helmet. I just sent it in for warrenty repairs...the heat got to it while it sat in my scooter trunk. Sparx will replace your helmet for free if you are in an acident. While I wait on it, I wear a half helmet that makes me look like a true dork!
When I first got my scooter last year I rode a few times without a helmet since it was only 1 mile to work/home and it was 110F! I'm glad I was wearing my FF helmet when I had my wreck last year. I was only 2 blocks from home doing 15mph when I broke 6 ribs, punctured a lung and tore 3 ligaments in my left knee. Now for me it's manditory to wear a helmet.
My friend's dad was in a wreck last month. He passed out from the heat at 80mph. He's only alive cause he had a helmet, the rest of his body was broken.

in my place it gets really hot 118F up,especially in the afternoon, what i do is,as soon as i arrive at work i put my helmet and jacket(folded tightly)inside our Big refrigerator(where we put our reagents) and it stays there until i get off to work in 8hrs, the helmet and jacket gets really cold and it keeps my head ,face and upper body cold until i get home. i ride 14miles to work one way. somehow you have to find ways to survive...
