Does anybody know what the PPR (Pulses Per Revolution) is for the IB 300 Magnum? I'm putting a Tach on and it asks for it also whether it is ..5, 1.0 or 2. and is it constant or does it change and at what RPM if it changes. I had to put 2.0 to get idle right i wasn't idleing at 3200 RPM lol. but with that setting it maxes out at top speed at around 4000 RPM's dont sound right but if it's a constant 2.0 PPR then I have a Problem in getting proper RPMS might be why i max out on a flat road WOT at about 59MPH.....
OH well The Beat Goes ON and ON and ON.

It fires every revoluation. I believe you have to set the tach setting to 1. Lefty

hey lefty i tried that and it says i'm idleing at 3400 RPM i set it to 2 and it dropped to about 1600 just below moving point. but with PPR set at 2 the WOT at 59 or so MPH is around 4000. Some start at 2 and the change to 1 at certain rpms.. it can be set at .5 or 1 or 2 and the set the rpm for change and set at .5 or 1 or 2 there too....
Really SUX not having access to full diagrams and specs for these beasts....
right now don't know if PPR changes or something else wrong causing low RPM's... Don't really sound like it screamin at 8000-9000 RPM's tho....

Edfr is right 1 pulse from the cdi trigger and/ coil per revolution, once at TDC on compression, once again during the TDC overlap between the end of exh and beginning of intake, a traditonal waste spark system. There is nothing in a tach to differentiate (its analog) so it couldn't change pulse timing.
My guess is you might have a bad tach or wired it wrong, most aftermarket ones are made for cars, and sometimes you need to resort to some tomfoolery to get it to work on bikes especially these imports we love
I don't think you can pull a signal from the pickup, if its an ac fired box (most are) the pulse from the pickup is ac voltage if I'm not mistaken. that might be why its goofing up.
Other point of note most standard tachs are triggered from the neg side of the coil, cdi's dump a lot higher voltage to the coil to fire it, so if you did wire it to the coil that may have nuked it, i believe i recall seeing an adapter to run a standard tach on a capacitive discharge ignition, a speed shop should have/get it

OK what I'm installing is this: www.buggypartsnw.com/home?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=275&category_id=11A digital computer Tach, Speedo, Temp, clocks Odometer Trip counters and timers etc.... if the IB 300 Magnum has 1 PPR then I am Idleing at 3400 RPM without engaging the clutch..... Don't think so so either I off at low end or high end... Nice Unit Easy to read Etc...mounts to Coil Input for Pulse. and magnetic sensor for Speedo Front Wheel.... Also if it Fires On Both TDC (including the wasted one) that would be 2 PPR of the engine ...... if only once at TDC ignition and not TDC exhaust that would be 1. Also as I said with it set at 2 the Idle shows about 1200 and the clutch engages at 1800 like it should but WOT is 4000. I have heard about RPM limiting CDI's comming stock on some Scoots but 4000 when the Specs Are: Maximum Power (kw/r/min):14/6500(1±6%) Maximum Torque (N.m./rpm):21/5500(1±6%) would be rediculous. So either the PPR is changing (which some do) or something is limiting the max RPM's..

Parsons: Just thinking out loud here but there is a chance that you are running out of fuel at WOT. I'm with the others on one pulse per revolution. Idle sounds a tad high but that shouldn't limit much the WOT. Are you sure your A/F ratio is good? You could buy a cheap one wire tach that connects directly to the spark plug. They are fairly accurate and simple. That would tell you if your expensive unit is reading correctly. Not all CDI are created equal and the chinese models vary significantly in their capabilities. It is not totally uncommon to have a brand new one that does not perform at its max (quality control in the production process is really different for chinese products unless backed by US company). I think I would get the one wire cheap tach to analyze the tach problem...otherwise you are chasing an unknown. My opinion. Good luck bud, vr Lee
