A couple of days ago as I was leaving for work, I noticed that my speedometer wasn't working. It started to work a few miles down the road, so I shrugged it off as moisture related, because of the morning dew. Usually when I leave work it's fine. Yesterday, however, it didn't work all the way to work, or while I was on lunch. On the way home it worked fine. Also, when the speedo doesn't work, neither does the odo. Everything else works at all times(clock, batt, fuel). Could it be something going on with the cable? Is the speedo going bad?

Do you have a cable going from your wheel to the speedo. I take mine out once and a while and pull the cable out clean out inside the Cable housing and clean the actual metal cable and put a little litium grease on it. Sometimes they will start to come loose where it attachs to the speedo in back. I usually Reach under the front cowl and follow the cable and tighten it that way and not have to take off the front cowl and windshield. Lefty

My guess would be a wire behind the dash. Sounds like a short the way its intermittant.

Well, I just took it out for a spin(and it's hot today) and it's not working at all. Everything else works, just not the speedo or odometer. I checked the plug in back of the dash and it's connected well. I took the gear out of the front wheel, but it's clean looking and has grease on it. Usually after a mile or 2 it will start to work, but it hasn't worked at all today. Figures, I get the A/F set and something else happens

I think I fixed my speedo. I checked the wiring in back of the dash and one of them wasn't in the plug completely. I'll know for sure in the morning when it's cool out, but for now it's working.

That was the problem. Speedo and odo worked flawlessly today. Even in the cool air this morning.

I've got a 150cc scooter and a day after riding about a mile with a LOT of big potholes and bumps due to road work, I have the same problem! Will try feeling behind the front cover and feel if anything is loose! thanks!!

Have a lot of problems with loose wiring. With the Speedometer and Odometer it is usually the sensor bolt (& nut) on the front wheel that is coming loose. Glad you fixed it ibtrikin.

Uh, the speedo and odo are purely mechanical devices - no wiring involved! Unless by "not working", you are talking strictly about the lighting for the faces, or your speedo/odo is digital...

Some of the mechanical ones are not strictly gear driven they have a tiny board under the speedo arm and wired. The main gear box that the cable turns in the instrument panel actually acts like a stator believe it or not sending the signal to the board and then the Speedo arm registers.

I haven't seen one of those, but I'll take your word for it. Is that true for the odometer as well? I seem to remember some federal regs that prohibit electrically dependent odo's...

My PST150-8 has a digital ODO/SPEDO. The loose wiring problems have been to the Headlamps and the Fuel Gauge.
When my SPO/ODO stops working it is usually due to the bolt/nut, that holds it close to the front wheel, coming loose. Sometimes the bolt is not close enough to the wheel to register. In my case, when I assembled the Trike, I put the bolt on backwards (there were no instructions)
