Just snagged a 86 Yamaha Priva w/a 180cc. Have not taken delivery yet and I will have to replace battery and throttle cable according to owner. Bought on ebay. Anyone have any info on this one that they would like to share? Recommendations for repair shops? Sites I should join? I am in Boston, and don't have any friends that ride anything, I just want to save some gas mioney. I had dirt bike in the 70's so I still have the stripe on my license. Scoot has 1700 mi on it and been off road for 3 years.

hey nice bike well this site is great for repair questions and issues. As for repair shops id google scooter shops in boston im sure being such a vast region theyd have quite a few shops to choose from. Around where i live nothing but harleys and a few street bikes so i have to take my bike a good 20+ miles if i need something major worked on but for small things id say just tackle it yourself man lol, take care ; )

finding a shop is tough especially if you actually want repairs done well---lol until a few months ago, my closest dealer was 200 miles away but now i have one only 80 miles away---wooohooo.

yea i know finding a shop can be difficult to find especially if it is miles from where you live but seeing as he lives in Boston a big city he should be able to find a scoot dealer or shop that will work on his scooter for him.

thanks for the replys gang.......as u can see I just modified my original post...can't believe I didn't even put the right name in...it is a Yamaha PRIVA not a Rive.....evidently there is such a thing as a Rive as 2wheelextreme even said "nice bike" lol ......oh well, I have to figure out quickly how to get it from Taunton to me in Somerville. Keeping in mind it does not run. then I have to figure out if putting in a new throtttle cable is doable by me and procure one and a battery. Keeping in mind this is a vintage 86 scoot, and hoping that the age does not lead to probs getting parts. I am guessing a throttle cable is pretty generic and same for battery, Then there is the factor that it has been used for 3 years...thinking some kind of additive to first gas fill to clean carb , fuel line, and etc. Will I need to get a motorcycle lock with a big heavy chain? Recommendations on helmets? Any places in my areas where a scooter crowd hangs out? Again, any and all input is appreciated.

Ok I am buying this after on seeing pix and talking with the owner on phone but he insists the motor says 180cc on the side. At the dealer they say it only came in 125cc and 80cc. Could someone have installed a larger motor? Again it is an '86. thanks.

well now I know for sure it is a 180cc and the dealer was wrong...does not bode too well for getting parts if the dealer didn't know the bike existed......have since found a wealth of riva info online and am confident that I will be able to tool around on it soon here in Boston
