Freakin' not a very nice persons these days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My GF was hit on the road by some douche in a dark blue van even though she was all the way over on the right and had plenty of room to go around. She tried to call but didn't have good service and she was sorta out of it.. so she just got the scooter started up after a few tries and came home. She's got scrapes all over her arms and a big bruise on her leg/knee. Went to the sheriffs office and they just said that we should have called 911 and they can't do anything about it now. AAAAARRRRGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't afford to go to the hospital with no insurance, she's walking and coherent and everything so she should be fine, but no work tomorrow... What the hell is the law good for anymore?? If anyone is interested in seeing where she was hit here's the address it can be found on Mapquest: 3850 W County Road 500 N Madison IN 47250 She just got off of Hwy 7 and went onto the back-road of 500 N when the scum hit her. Maybe there should be a thread to catch hit and runners.

I guess now we are going to have to equip our scoots with camera's that can get the plate number... What I would like to do to these hit and run drivers the law won't allow.

Yeah, but a good polarized lens will get a picture of the driver. I bet he felt so bad he won't take that road again for a whole week.

I can't believe the Sheriff's office said they "can't do anything." Hit and run with injury is a FELONY! It doesn't matter if she called 911 right then or waited until she got to the office. And how could she have called if she had no service at that spot either? She did the right thing by going home. WHAT DID PEOPLE DO BEFORE CELL PHONES?
Definitely DOCUMENT the bruises and the damage to the scooter, as well as photos of the accident scene. They will come in handy if you ever locate that piece of crap in the future.
I hope you catch the guy.

Guess I gotta take apart the headlight casing because it's pushed in.
Probably gonna have to glue it or something, idk yet.
Also, the scooter turns much further to the left than it did before, Idk why though...

Probably the stops got bent on the front fork. Don't ride it if you feel too much vibration or it feels too loose.

I rode it all the way down to the Sheriff's Office, about 30 minutes, it seems to drive just fine and everything. No excessive vibration and I probably hit 40-50 mph down the big hwy on the way there.

Heaven forbid there's a next time, but 911 works anywhere, even if you can't call anyone else. If it's a prepay phone and you have no minutes, you can still dial 911.
I hope in the future, you or she owns the lane, you have every right to be there too! I never ride on the line. I own my lane and ride on the left/right and don't care who I pi$$ off, they can go around me when it's legal to. I'm not trying to be mean here, just trying to help you/her to be seen. I also wear a bright jacket and helmet, off colored from my scoot, anything to be seen better yanno?
I hope the GF heals soon. Take care of the wounds and at the very least, make sure a tetanus shot is up to date. Those are cheap at the health clinic. Need to have one every 10 years.

Tip: Mount gun turrents in the REAR as well as the usual front location. It's enough to take on the risks of one's own actions when biking, but so frustratingly unfair we take on the risk of others' actions too. Glad she's relatively ok, and hope she stays so.

I am sure a great many here are very mortified at hearing of your loved ones hit and run.
I also agree never ride any where but the middle of the lane, some 5 year old in a pick up truck will knock you over to save the world from gays or some other delusion of grander.
SC is in a freeze up of good folks horrified at good ol boys Neanderthals deliberately hit and run homicides, a scoot mechanic here had a guy turn around and come after him and bump him in a ditch, he was not found for 9 hours, and then half dead and bleeding.
You must face your anger creatively, or it will eat you, your just a human man.
Call your congressman and local reps.
then join MADD

The MADD Mission Statement
Bikers Rights must mean first and foremost our right to ride free of the threat auto drivers pose to bikers lives and limbs. The Mission of Motorcyclists Against Dumb Drivers is to get mad, take names and kick ass on the most important issue facing all American motorcyclists, and that is the unnecessary dangers we face riding, which are overwhelmingly the result of auto driver inattention to motorcyclists, auto driver ignorance of motorcycle safety issues and auto driver ignorance of the motorcycle accident avoidance strategies essential for the protection of motorcyclists. The solution to ignorance is education. Specifically, mandatory auto driver education to modify auto driver inattentional blindness to motorcyclists, comprehensive education on motorcycle safety issues and the motorcycle accident avoidance strategies which auto drivers must employ for the safety of motorcyclists; revising the driver education booklets to include this comprehensive motorcycle safety information, modifying the written tests which auto drivers must take to obtain and renew their drivers licenses to include a comprehensive list of motorcycle safety questions, and obtaining official state policies to deny driving privileges to any driver who fails to demonstrate a full appreciation of motorcycle safety issues by answering all motorcycle safety questions correctly. Because auto driver in attentional blindness specific to motorcyclists is a major factor resulting particularly in intersection motorcycle accidents, in addition to targeted auto driver education, strong motorcycle accident specific "right of way violation" penalty legislation is also considered essential. Given that driving under the influence of cell phones has become epidemic, results in an additional "attentional" driving impairment equal to DUI drunk driving and a four fold increased likelihood that the auto driver will cause an accident, we also strongly urge a comprehensive ban on all cell phone use while driving. Motorcyclist safety must be seen as our most basic of bikers rights.

We motorcyclists wear helmets to protect our brains. They should make helmets for a$$es too, to protect the brains of morons like the one who hit your GF. Hope she's ok and back on the road soon!

ROAD RASH
it's a very old biker trick that works magic.
After you wash the dust out--
Put "Vics Vapor Rub" on it, the camphor will kill the pain and the germs like a wonder and the *Vaseline will make it heal twice as fast.
*FDA studies confirmed.

I just sent this to the Chief of Police in my area:
_________________________________________________________________________ I recently went to the Jefferson County Police Department to report a hit and run.
When told about the hit and run, the officer we spoke to (who's name I cannot remember, but I'd know her by sight) said that 911 should have been called at the scene of the accident and that now they couldn't do anything at all to help.
That's a load of crock.
I'm supposed to believe that after being hit off the road, a report can't be made on a CRIME just because 911 wasn't called immediately for them to assess the wreck? Not everyone has a cell phone! It's not like we can just yell "911" and here comes the ambulance. The victim as stated did in fact have a cell phone, and she did make a call.
She called home.
But the signal was poor and the call dropped before anything could be said. So she couldn't have called 911 anyways! We didn't even know she was hurt until she managed to start her scooter/moped, and drive 4 miles home, just to be found limping into the doorway. Guess what the first thing we did was? First-aid. Then we drove all the way to your department just to find out that they "can't do anything"? I'm APPALLED. Some police force huh? Report a crime, with a description of the offending vehicle and they are still unable to write up a report, or look into it?
It's situations like this that give me no faith in the police to do their job. As far as I can tell, my taxes go toward shiny new cars so they can look good while they pretend to care..
Sincerely Ashamed of Our Police,
"ME"

I understand the sentiment, but I believe it could have been written with a bit more tact. However, I'm sure you'll get a response.
If you feel like a letter writing campaign, you could write to the editor of the local paper and your local city council, alderman, legislator, and the state police. But if you keep emotion out of it you will get a better reception.
