Fun on an intersection.
I can understand the small footprint of a motorcycle light looking like a further away car at first glance, except I was at a red light waiting, when someone darned near ran into me from behind. From my side mirror,I saw the headlights coming up faster than comfortable, and as I hit the throttle to pull to the right onto a side street he had already swerved left and blew the light, yelling out what was incomprehensible, slurred (extremely drunk sounding) garble.
I'm new to riding and really got a great reinforcement lesson to mind your mirrors at stops and stay reflective. I even like to turn the handle bars very slightly so as to allow a wide mirror to show behind my bike.
I'll be mounting that trunk and making it a billboard for reflective stickers.
The least you can do is everything in YOUR power to avoid being hit even if riding by the book.
Scary!

glad to hear nothing happened!! that same thing happened to a friend of mine, except that the guy plowed him and after years of plastic surgery he still has more facial reconstruction to do. so yeah yesterday a guy blew a left turn a red, i was like just past the crosswalk and boom! there he was. i got lucky because that driver didnt care. ride safe and keep them eyes open!!

Viva California (and most of the rest of the world) and lane splitting/filtering. I don't sit in back waiting to be hit. If you can't do that be sure and give yourself an opening. Never get close and stop your bike directly at the center of the car in front of you. Leave yourself a space to head though if the guy behind you decides he wants to make a scooter sandwich.

I like your thinking, terrilee. I'm not against mounting a christmas tree on my trunk. Regardless of season.

I'm thinking about getting one of those yellow reflective vests. I'm wondering where you can buy a reflective vest locally? I got one at walmart for $7. I keep it in my van in case i ever have to do any roadside work, whether it be on the vehicle or other work. I use it when I work on a ladder/roof sometimes too. If a bright orange thing falls... someone is more likely to notice sooner. I think i am doing the orange flag thing for the scooter. DON'T NEGLECT THE HELMET! It is the highest point on your bike. The local sign shop can do some awesome vinyl cuttings in reflective, bright, and contrasting materials. Not very costly. If you dont have a helmet, put me in your will...

sometimes though, it doesnt matter what you're driving. There will be inattentive drivers who hit whatever is in front of them no matter how noticeable it is.

check out harbor frieght if there is one by you. i got a hi vis vest for like $3. i always recomend a ff helmet. my friend had a half helmet and the back of his head was ok but his face and the pavement had an issue. scootdude, what happened to your scoot, i read you totaled it and getting a white one? no motorcycle? though my motorcycle sure looks a lot cooler than my scoot did. i notice chicks look at me more than when i rode a scoot... anything on 2 wheels is a blast anyway. ride safe all and have a great weekend!

jeffreyhunter117 I kind of wish I held onto the insurance money a little bit longer but it was so tempting to be able to get the very last pathfinder 200 (180cc) available. Once I get it titled I might sell it for a two hundred more than what I paid for it, sell it for $1599 locally. Then I might get a Dong Fang bobber for $2167 and customize it a bit with str8 handlebars and blue neon light to make it a hot chopper. I'm still trying to research the Dong Fang Bobber, there are only a couple of people saying good things about it. I hear people are having trouble getting it titled and tagged. I may end up adding a thousand more and going with a CCW "The Heist" Bobber for $3k locally. Another problem is I never shifted gears on a motorcycle. I can shift a manual in a car though so people tell me I should have no prob on a bike. I should probably take a msf course b/c they teach you to shift. Yeah, I'm a single guy now and chicks turn their head real quick when they see a dude on a scooter. lol Chicks really do dig motorcycles, it's a fact of life. If I was married or had a chick I would care less but man I need to score and this scooter is not helping. lol

Why don't you save a little more and get a sportster, so if you get a chick she has a place to ride. those bobbers have no place for her.

shifting is real easy, you'll pick it up real quick. yes take the MSF worth it. just basic stuff but it helps. a discount on insurance is also a plus

FREGGING JOE THANKS
PLEASE POST MORE
Nothing more sonic then a clear post and this one screams PAST THE SOUND BARRIER.
I just bought a very good "flasher only " from 'Co-magi nation" and will be putting a yellow flasher front and back with a push button to momentarily turn EXTRA FLASHER lights on a and off.
EVERYBODY-- they make one that will hook to break lights and flash your lights for 4 seconds/then steady on every time you hit the breaks.
I ride one of the Tallesthighest bikes in the world and use same to my advantage.
Here in BUTTROCK south Carolina, scooter is synonymous with HOMO to the primitive redneck natives IN PICK UP TRUCKS, many folks have been deliberately hit and run.
THATS SPELLED MURDER, even the cops will tell you not to ride at night.
we have the highest attempted murder and run in the nation, this is the real world coming at you and if someone whats to fantasize some other reality -you won't live long to do it.
NEVER PULL TO THE EX STREAM LEFT SIDE TO LET TRUCKS OR CARS GO BY YOU WHILE WAITING TO TURN LEFT AT A RED LIGHT. many folks have been bumped off the road this way by a speeding truck with a scooter killer in side.
A flashing light can make even a gorilla sober for a second, these are high grade hand made flashers just for you system, 30 bucks never better spent.
www.comagination.com/ SCARY!!! and thanks, i've been looking for the front and rear for my motorcycle... now i can get one !

the whole they didn't see you is just a excuse they come up with cause they fail at driving. its like when they hit a Harley and say they didn't hear it. you can hear those things 2 blocks away. and btw they didn't see/hear you doesn't stand up in court.
the real issue so many drivers do not need to be on the roads. i was driving today going 5 over and people where speeding by me like i was the slowest car there. i saw another car weaving threw traffic i mean really where all going pretty much the same speed your not going to get there any faster driving like a bad wordtard.
i stay back from riders as your supposed to. i mean really people act like that extra 10 feet is really gonna make a difference on how quickly they are gonna get somewhere.

I mean really people act like that extra 10 feet is really gonna make a difference on how quickly they are gonna get somewhere. Exactly, nearly every time I arrive at the light behind them as there still sitting at it, and most of the time, by time I get there its just turning green so I dont have to stop very often hehe.

always wear a reflective vest at night. and also i have had a few clients here install extra LED lights on the back of the scooter near the License plate to give an added visability and changed out the rectangle reflector for an LED one.
