Hey Guys - I'm a new noob to the forum and have been doing some reading over the last several weeks on scooters to wrap my brain around the things to watch out for. I found a new TNG Volare (based on research it looks like the Znen Vespa like brand). What do you guys think of this deal? It looks like they go for about the same price on the internet $1100-$1200 so the price is fair. Is the brand worth while? A local dealer mentioned that the Znen retro looking ones are bad, but he didnt specify what model of them. He mentioned that the steering wheel shakes after hitting bumps due to a crappy frame. I haven't had any handling problems with mine. It's larger and heavier than a lot of the 150s. The trailing link front suspension isn't the smoothest but no wobble at all.

Any other feedback on the Volare? I looked at it today and it looks pretty descent. It looks like it's all hit or miss from what I read on the forum.

At 11600 miles the engine is still running good. Had the clutch bearing go out at 5k or 7k. Had a fuel pump fail and burned up the starter (my fault). Had a few problems with the carb (again my fault). Still have all the original electronics working. A good PDI and regular maintenance go a long ways.

Great thanks philr54. I ended up picking it up over the weekend. It's already all put together by the shop which claims they did a thorough PDI (they also gave me the checklist). I was compering it to the PDIs that are mentioned here on the forum and notice really the only think would be the fuel line and the fuel filter. Did you change yours our when you bought the scooter?

Hi fladg, I also bought my bike from a reputable suziki/yamaha/lifan dealer used with a list of all the thing they checked. I hadn't put only a few miles on it and the variator nut loosened up almost off,other bolts were loose and the cheap valve stems were not changed which my rear one fell out,glad I was going slow when it happened. All this to say, as it is so much repeated here , for your own good, safety and peace of mind do a thorough PDI anyway. Lots of miles and lots of smiles to ya!

I got about 40 miles on this weekend scooting around town and noticed that it's still bogged down when I first twist the handle. After about a few second delay (bogged down) it picks back up. The scooter definitely sat for a few months before I picked it up and the guy mentioned that it's stale gas. I tried to run some of through and put in some fresh but still about the same. You guys think it's just the gas that needs to run through or some build up somewhere?

You main jet could be partially plugged.. you need to disassemble and clean the carb...run a wire through the jet to scrape the inside...

My buddy was also suggesting sea foam. I've been reading online about it this morning and it looks like people give it great reviews. Worth a try before ripping apart the carb?

Try seafoam first. I use it for rebuilding carbs. IMHO great stuff.

The ZN150T-F seems to come standard with 17g rollers. It's a dog on take off. I think around 20-25 mph it started to pick up some. After some experimenting, I'm running 13.5g rollers now.

Seafoam is useless for this... it is combustion chamber/valve cleaner... for this job you want STP carb and injector cleaner...soak the carb in it for 24 hours and run a wire through the jets.. I add about 1 once to ever tank full...never had a plugged jet in 45 years...

Difficult - no, a time consuming pain in the butt - yes. The one thing I don't like about the retro style scooters is accessing the engine. the carb is fairly easy to reach but everything else requires removing the rear panels. The basics: 1. remove side panels 2. remove kick start lever 3. remove CVT cover 4. remove the variator 5. change rollers
The easiest way to get the variator off is an impact wrench. The best way to put it on is to immobilize it and torque it to 35-40 ft-lbs. There is a simple to make tool somewhere in this forum for holding the variator but without "Google" search I can't find it.
Big difference in performance, but you're running at higher rpms and it will cut into your mpg some. You'll have to experiment with what works best for you. I like the 13.5 g rollers but I weigh around 280 lbs. I bought a kit on ebay with a 115mm variator face and 18 rollers (3@ of 6 different weights) but I can't find it now. If/when you get ready to do this, post to forum or PM me and I'll try and talk you thru it.

Hey Guys -
Wanted to report the seafoam try. It actually worked quite well on the carbs. The bug down is just about gone. I feel it happens still every once in a while but very rare. Pushing 200miles and it's definitely feeling much better. I'm sure a good carb clean would fix the random bog down but I'll save that for another day.
Looks like my next big milestone is oil change at 300. Anything else you guys recommend doing during that time?

sprocket - just hit 300 miles today. As I was riding though and stopped at the grocery store I noticed there is a leak from the CVT cover, is that fairly common? I know you mentioned to change the gear oil so just wanted to see.
philr54 - ever run into that issue? I've been trying to read on the forum and it sounds like some leaks are fairly common just curious about this one and how to go about fixing it.

Oil leaks can be a pain to locate. Just because there is oil dripping from the CVT doesn't mean that's what's leaking. There is an oil seal behind the variator. My valve cover gasket was leaking (reused the rubber ring 3 or 4 times) and I had some oil around the shroud and CVT.

thanks philer54. I changed the engine oil along with the gear oil and cleaned it up nicely. After cleaning a little bit, it seems like it was the gear oil leaking by the drain plug. We'll find out in the upcoming weeks how it goes.

Hey Guys -
It looks like I'm getting a leak from the oil drain bolt now. How often are you suppose to replace those or anyone else with a similar issue?
The CVT still has a leak towards the bottom but only when the bike runs for a bit (sounds like it thins out after a bit of riding).
Whats a good place to start ordering new seals and such?

Oil in the CVT usually means the crank seals are failing...when it gets bad the scooter won't move cause the belt will simply slip on the oil. It is something you need to attend to...very soon

If you are running synthetic oil now.. go back to dino oil 10W40. I have seen crank seal leak stop...
Synthetic oil wicks ... which is also what makes it a good lubricant.. but it will often get past the seals and case seams...

sprocket - I am currently using Premium Conventional Valvoline SAE 10W-40, would you suggest a different one?
I was reading another post that had the same issue as mine with the seals so I'll go ahead and replace those. It looks like I need:
Left Crankcase Seal size 27*42*7 Crankcase Seal size 19.8*30*5
Is there a specific vendor online that you would recommend?
