My last ride across the desert didn't go as well the previous one. apparently dirt roads with lots of washboards are hard on starters and my RV-250 failed to start after stopping to take a couple of pics. I wound up stranded, in the desert, about 100 miles from home. I wrote about it in my club's blog. Read all the gory details here: skyislandriders.com/?p=1028

This one of the few stories I have read about a RV250 breaking down. Knock on wood 28k on mine and 12k on my wifes, never been stranded. Good thing here was you were not way out in the boonies and were near some people. Lesson here is, when riding on the road less travelled, cell phone charged prior to leaving and bring the GPS, or a detailed map. Glad it worked out ok.

Funny thing, Jim. I have less than 4k miles on my RV-250. My mechanic is convinced that riding on rough road is what caused the starter to fail. I don't know. Aren't there more rough roads in Taiwan than there are here?
At 4k miles, I'm thinking it was just a bad starter.

Ya, my first starter went out at 1000 miles. The second one is still good after 4300 miles. Can get a bad starter from any type of scooter. Parts are not tested on scooter parts. Attachments:

I can understand the driver's anger. You were lucky, but caused a lot of people a lot of worry.

I went to call my dad and realized i grabbed the wrong cell phone! the one i had with me wasnt even activated!!! i chained it to a tree and started walking home carrying my helmet hoping someone would stop finally someone stoped and i explained what happened and he took me and my moped home...it wasnt the first time someone took me home with my moped in the back of theire truck
