I have my MSF class in a couple weeks. The class requires me to have "overankle footwear with a low heel". I don't own shoes or boots like this.
Does anyone know of some cheap boots or shoes I can buy? I'm a men's size 13.
Thanks.

Just go to Walmart or, Target Etc... and get a pair of boots maybe steel toes if ya like. Should be around $25/40. Just about any shoe store should carry them.. The price may be an issue depending on where ya go.

Yeah I was thinking Walmart would be the answer.
I assume everyday city scoot riders don't use Boots? At some point there is diminishing returns to safety vs. comfort.

I wear LL Bean hiking boots everywhere. But then I'm in Maine and flat shoes don't exist. LOL. I do not feel comfortable if my ankle isn't covered by leather.
Try the Salvation Army. They should have some old army boots for $5 or so.

Goodwill, Disabled American Vets, Salvation Army, or local variations of second hand/consignment stores. If you don't plan to wear them except for the class then style doesn't matter, so go for low price.

Go for woodland shoes. They are best and less expensive.

In town riding I wear regular shoes and out on the highway, I wear steel toe boots. Either way, one can have an accident, but speed depends on how bad the accident will be. That to depends on which helmet to wear. A half shelled helmet would be o.k. for in town speeds but a full face helmet is advised for highway speeds.

Yes, I seen that video about 3 years ago. Yes, it is in town riding.. That is really in city riding. A town like mine, is 2000 people verses 50,000 people. If city riding can be dangerous. But cars can pull out infront of a motorcyclist anywhere. It is a gamble we all take. It still depends on surrounding, traffic, ect.. But out on a country highway I was wearing all my protective gear, no real traffic, but had a valve stem give me a flat at 60 mph.. So this could occure anywhere at anytime. Some things are out of your control. I use judgement to wear protective gear or not.

If you're using a motorcycle, try and find something that isn't too bulky, so you're not fumbling around to feel your shifter. I wore some boots I got cheap from Payless and truly regretted it. The next day I brought the goofy-looking yet comfortable and thin motocross style boots I ebayed for $10 and the difference was night and day.
Whatever you get, be comfortable, and don't go too bulky if you're new to the feeling of shifting gears. Neutral can be tricky to shift into without a good feel of the shifter, lol.
No sneakers.

My daughter took her MSF course wearing hi-top Chuck Taylors, don't get too worked up about it. My wife rides her scoot in all manner of shoes, lo-heels, flats, basically whatever she is wearing to work. She has riding boots but only wears them when she is on an M/C. I tell her she is going to roll an ankle in the heels, but she is a strong-headed lass and won't listen.

just do a google on motorcycle boots you'll find plenty of sights where you can get them. I got my boots from Sportsman'sguide.com for $49.00, I wear all my protective gear every time I ride this summer alone I have been run off the road 3 times by people cutting blind corners and were in my lane causing me to go off the side of the road twice broken ribs and road rash so don't go cheap and don't just wear them for the class my boots have kept my feet from getting hurt. Remember Ride to live and live to ride safely. good luck on your course

I wore lightweight hiking boots found at Walmart. Real suede upper, very breathable, comfortable and good traction.
Good luck!
