mike looking at pics it looks like there are 6 bolts on each side that hold it with gasket material may have to break gasket loose if u removed the 6 bolts each L&R Be interested in full notes as i have to do it too when i get it in i also have to replace axle on left side.. also slide forward to remove chain i think... her is link to parts page at IB www.icebearatv.com/parts_details_table.php?proid=199&lb=238

OK...GOT IT......forget the above..All I have to do is remove one side, will be the left section suspension section plate and all and I can change out. Just took a break and a coffee and I got it....Really not a big deal just have to align it all on completion.
fYI I could now change out a axle gear box in 4 hours or less.

Guess they having more problems than they let on with the old way.

nope just using whats on IB site.
But if u look at the side pic they have outboarded the shifter and u can see where the motor is different right there, they also say its in engine now (Forward-Reverse-Neutral...) wishing i had gotten one of the new ones.. have mine since feb still not inspected or on road... SUX

AH Yes, I can see the cable running under the motor from the Shifter on the side, and yes neutral forward and reverse. So they upgraded that DAMN REVERSE again which always seems to cause troubles. Lefty

thats a shifter rod not cable. 2 screws on the front side of trunk instead of one and added 2 screws at very back. also backup pull starter. looks like lots of changes fixing ongoing problems that i have read about..

parsonsj11 Didn't you get yours at FMS? I think he said 2 had come in when mine did.
Mike
It looks like it will drop when the inner hub bolts are pulled but will not. U=joint bearings project from houseng just a tad and a seal. Really is not that hard, no special tools...If you have to loosen your chain to remove it it is too tightt....

Also..I feel it was the shifter that caused the axlle gear box to fail....After I tied/locked the shifter in forward there was no more jumping/bucking. I was able to ride 1600 miles after that with a noise rear end. It is so easy you need no reverse. The spring load on gear box is too week and caused jumping skipping and bucking. Even this new install has a rod lock in forward to frame = No Reverse

Well have to tell you the Pull Starter is not any better as a matter of fact I think it is worse than the Kickstarter. Reason being it turns the CUP inside Counter Clockwise which is the same direction to UNSCREW the Variator Nut to take it off. Give that Sucker One Good pull and you just loosened the Variator Nut and now your Variator is Loose. Lefty

ya lance at fms said he got it ordered just waiting fer it to get here.. mine just kinda slips on acceleration in forward dont do anything like it in reverse. also the inner rubber on the axle turned 1/2 way around nothing for it to hit on so dont know whats up with that. lots of grease escaping where it apparently cut through. thats why they sent new axle. chain was extremely tight when i got it. hope it didn't screw up anything else.. nice weather and all i can do is sit and say aint that swell.... LOL

Here is what the Pull start looks like inside the CVT. Parsonsj11, if it slips in Forward adjust the cable so that it allows the LEVER on the Differential to move back a little more. You are real close so another 1/8-1/4 of slack on the cable and it will not slip in forward. Lefty

ya 1st thing i checked lever all the way back with little slack in cable as IB recommends lever wont go any further back goes into reverse and forward no problem.
had a local guy that does most kinds of motorized toys look at it he said probably transmission thinking too tight chain caused something on left side to go and that allows axle to get twisted like it does. i'll know when rearend gets here.. probably have to change belt havent opened it up yet to see. but when it first started to do it i would get a puff of smoke from that area like it would jam and then the belt or clutch would smoke..
also it only does it under load -- any speed tell it most uphill.
like i said will see when i take it apart and start replacing. might even of been the axle locking up and caused it all?? dont know cant see inside anything back there .. without cutting things apart just guessing.

All you do is pull the 2 bolts on hub, set it on fender bracket break line and all. Than just pull axle and u=joint out....look at it nothing to it. You may just have a bad cover on it, easy fix.
My Magnum did the same as yours but...never locked up like you said. Once I locked out the sh!ter to the frame in forward it never skipped or jumped again...2,000 miles ago. It is very noise but still working

Ok giong to talk you thru it.
Remove both wheels...pull back deck...pull RIGHT wheel hub 2 bplts and wire tie and set on muffler you only cut one tie on shock that holds break line-do not take apart....now just pull right alxe/u-joint assembly out....on lift hub pull both bolts pull it off and hold it in one hand and pull the axle assembly out and put hub back in place with top bolt...
Now you need to remove the 8 bolts on the Left side not sproket side ...now remove the 4 big loock bolts on the Right side section only (this willl save you much time and work) be sure not to turn your adjustment screws at all...gear box will drop to the 2 steel bars, just pull the gear box and right frame section out the back....
Make sure when you take deck off to remove your chain
ok now on the floor remove left side bolts on axle hub.....clean axle hub on trike and the righ one....I used foam silicone gasket than bolt new box to the removed right section and install same as removed....
When you line it up to bolt to the left gear hub set top bolt loose than botton.
Really is not that hard
Let me know....Mile

Update
Silver Bullet is off blocks the switch was not that bad, well took me much longer cause I can not do much as am disadled. Well put 10 oz of gear oil in it than double check everything and test drive. May have to align but lets see how she rides and handles first.
I use a flat 1/2in al bar to line the sprokets, was a minor adjustment made wile adjusting chain 1/2 in bottom push up slack.
Shifter cable tied not connected. Shift lever in gear box is locked in forward to fram with al rod.

parsonsj11 I was caught up in a senior moment for hours.....Remember when you get the old unit out to check the sproket for spacers. If you have them on the old unit put them on the new sproket (lock tight).
