Saterday saw me leave Christchurch via Weka Pass, Lewis Pass and Takaka Hill (really a mountain at 800m/2700ft) to Collingwood at the top of the South Island where civilization ends and then down to friends in Richmond - 600kms total for the trip. maps.google.co.nz/maps/ms?client=opera&oe=utf-8&channel=suggest&ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=214511498063819395849.00049fd36b8faab3bf565&z=7this was my route. Click on here to see some photos taken along the way. Now Takaka Hill is just insane, twisty after twisty 30kms/18miles long, from sea level up to 800m.2700ft and down again. Scraped the bottom of the scoot on both sides, exhaust almost thru even tho I did not try. Here's a quick video I found of Takaka Hill "][ My ride was a bit slower. Coming back I had torrential rain for 200kms/125miles. Luckily my wet weather gear did the job and the scoot ran like clockwork. 1100kms/680miles in the two days was a nice ride.

howdy, glad to see ya are still ya are still goin' and seein' and doin' and bein' hows the recovery from the earthquake? how are you doing? lotsa miles and smiles to ya still rocking had a 5.5 magnitude one on Monday morning. We are all amateur seismologists now after the 1000's of shakes we had. We can now judge the size by our reactions. If you think "well that was another one" then it would be 2 to 3 magnitude, if you think "oh that was one" then it's 3 to 4, when you wonder if you should head for a door frame then it's 4 - 5 and when you find yourself standing under a door frame then it's over 5. But life goes on. It will take years to rebuild our devastated city as they first have to demolish it and then rebuild.
