Mother nature has been playing a cruel joke on us lately. We've had clear, calm days with lots of good sunshine, however if you step outside it's unseasonably cold. It feels more like early February than late March.
I've been chomping at the bit to get some scooter rides in on my new scoot, so yesterday when the sun was shining bright, I decided to give it a shot even though the temp was barely above freezing. I've got decent, not excellent, but decent gear, so I thought it'd be good. For the most part it was, but my destination was about 15 miles away, and after 15 miles of riding 45+ mph (sometimes as fast as 60), I was COLD!
It was mostly my hands. My body was cold, but not unbearable. In fact, had it only been 5 or so miles, I think I wouldn't have even noticed it too much.
The bad part about riding out is that you have to ride back, and by the time I had completed the activity I had riden out for, the sun was lower. So I mentally prepared myself for the 15 miles back. Needless to say I made it, but none too soon. The thermometer was reading 26 degrees by the time I pulled into the garage. I have to say, given the temperature and the fact I was wearing gear made for probably 45-50+ degrees, it wasn't all that bad. I think if it were even 40 degrees, I would have been perfectly fine.
Oh, and here's the funny part: the activity I rode to: ice fishing (a buddy of mine invited me out). Yes, a year ago next week I was helping my uncle put his dock in the water, and this year we still have two feet of ice on the lakes. Go figure.
