Hello and I am new to this board. Wanna get a scooter for the gas mileage. Not willing to spend lots of money until I see if I like scooters. Never liked motorcycles because they were too noisy. If I like scooters, I can always upgrade later to a more quality machine.
So, anyone here own a Sunflower 150cc. Tell me the good and bad please.
I noticed the seat height was lower to the ground and that's what I want. Like the price and the warranty program. Yes, it is Chinese, but then we stick around long enough, just about everything will be from China because of cheap labor.
It said in the ad they had a real repair manuel. Anyone care to expand of this.
Thanks!

lewtwo, good article you wrote about your turn around trip to Key West. I was google searching the web for information on the Sunflower and clicked on your article. It made me stop and think maybe it would be o.k. as a cheap first scooter to begin with.
Have you had to work on it much?
Are parts hard to get?
Did you get one of their repair manuels?
How can he sell them for $997.00
Did you buy it off the internet without seeing and touching it?
Thanks

> made me stop and think maybe it would be o.k. as a cheap first scooter to begin with. < That was my reasonsing. I figured worst case I could flip it without loosing a lot. As it turns out I decided to keep it as a "project" bike.
> Have you had to work on it much? < Not other than the exhaust nut problems (my own fault for not checking 'em closer).
> Are parts hard to get? Have not tried to get anything other than minor engine parts and those are common to all 150cc GY6 scooters. I got most of the stuff I needed from Stan at Oregon Vintage.
> Did you get one of their repair manuels? < Yep. Total waste of money. Get Lee's manual instead.
> How can he sell them for $997.00 < Buy them by the container, low overhead, thin profit.
> Did you buy it off the internet without seeing and touching it? < Yep.
My pickup goes to the dealer or Goodyear for work because it has to be reliable beyond question. The scooter I could get by without. The scooter is not as complex, as big and does not require the range of tools required for modern 4 wheel vehicles. The CDI ignition is the must complex thing on it. I figured that whatever problems there might be I could deal with them.
Anyone that is a bit nervous about doing their own mech work should avoid a drop shipped scooter from any source.

lew, is the scooter quiet?
What is the seat height?
Can the seat be motified to be more comfortable?
When it arrived, what assembly was required?
How long have you owned it and what is your mileage?
I have a friend living around where his shop is located and he said he would drive there and look it over.
Thanks lew, for answering all my questions!

lew, is the scooter quiet? Noisier than the Vespa but not offensive (and I am picky in that regard).
What is the seat height? Not a clue. Has no seat or body on it at the moment. I stand 6 feet with 34 inseams. If anything I could stand to have it a bit higher.
Can the seat be motified to be more comfortable? I am certain, but do not have a clue what it would cost.
When it arrived, what assembly was required? Charge battery. Install Front Wheel. Install luggage carrier. Install bolts in bottom of rear shocks. Attach gas line. Install Battery. Fill Fuel tank. Turn Key. Push starter button.
How long have you owned it and what is your mileage? 'bout 2 months. 80 mpg.
good luck.

Be reminded that you may be required in your state to have a valid motorcycle license to ride a 150cc legally. In Florida anything over 50cc needs a motorcycle endorsement on a valid drivers lis. Fortunately it is very easy to pass a road test on one of these scooters. Many people buy these just to pass the MC road test. It is nearly impossible to pass this test, given on a basketball court, on a big heavy bike such as a Harley.

I thought I would need a motorcycle license here in Arkansas but not until one buys a 250cc or above. Legislators passed a law of no sales tax on vehicles ($2,500 and under) which consume less gas.
