Doing a engine swap on a 50cc Jonway VIP. Going to be asking a lot of questions cuz from what ive read there are tons of experts here and im a scooter NooB. Afternoon everyone. I have sort of a strange question. I'm doing a engine swap from a 50cc to 150cc and was wondering if the 50cc transmission final drive shaft would fit in the 150cc case? The 150cc I am using is a long case if that makes any difference. The final drive shaft is a long on on the 150cc If the short one does not fit could i just use a spacer to take up the space between the nut and wheel? Thank you in advance for any and all help.

You would have to measure the shaft diameter... you don't want to mess with spacers etc. What size wheels? 10"?
The very most I would consider might be a single washer between the wheel bearing and the wheel nut...
You have to be careful or you will get the front and rear wheel out of alignment and then the ride will get very dangerous!

The 50cc had a 10" rim but the 150cc is a 13" rim. The final drive shaft on the 150cc i guess hooks to the second shock mount on a normal 150cc frame. As I do not have this mount there is a lot of "shaft" from the rim out to the Drive shaft nut. I may not be explaning this right as i am in Class at the moment and the scooter is at home.

Sure I got it. Actually on the 150cc there is a side plate and bearings that is attached to the engine and often mounts the muffler too. The right shock usually mounts to it.
There were some 150ccs made that had a single shock and no support plate like the 50ccs.
These have a shorter rear axel. You should check out suppliers for a replace for the one you have...

I just saw the photos, looks like it might fit, but you would need to get exact measurements. The trouble is going to be trying to get a standard 13" wheel to fit... The standard wheel are designed to have a right hand bearing support. I suspect you will need to go to a 10" on the rear.

Thank you. Know im not sure if i want to do the short axle or go ahead and get a swing arm. From what iv seen and i believe you said also the muffler hooks to it also. Also i might want to one day install a disk brake set up. ;D

fl0540bravo, do you happen to know if your scooter was sold as a 150cc model at some point? That might be a good starting place to find parts. My 150cc was originally released as a 50cc 10in tire model that then Roketa decided to start using the same body panels with a 150cc model. My scooter only has one shock in the rear, drum brake, and a tiny 1.1 gallon tank. (all holdovers from 50cc engineering) I'm OK with mine cause I like the fact that the bike is so lightweight.

From looking at the frame it only has a single shock mount so I'm going to guess that it was only a 50cc frame. And I agree with you about the bike being light weight that's the reason I'm doing the conversion and not just buying a pre built 150, Also its more fun to build it and say "yup built by me" ;D

go with a swingarm and bearings and 2nd shock you will thank yourself later Ordered a swing arm last night. Found one for close to the same price as the small axle Also didn't really want to have to mess around with trying to come up with a muffler mount as the swing arm is also the muffler mount.

Ok have another problem i just noticed. Glad im looking at everything before i start the conversion. As the scooter is my daily driver granted shes running on her last leg and i have to baby it everyday. lol.
OK here my next problem is. I was looking a the wires on the new engine its a 150cc and the wires from the stator is a completly different plug then the on on the bike. From what i remember ( i looked at it before running to class) is the one out of the engine is a square plug with 4 wires on it. And the one on the scooter is a t-plug i think. What im wondering is do i need to change plugs or get a 150cc wiring harness. Is there a way to check the stator to tell if its a 6 - 8 or 11 pole without removing the flywheel. Should i just get a 8 pole as thats what is on the scooter now.

Just make sure you remember that the 150 has different electrics. I have one in the shop now that a guy did a swap. He had it all messed up and the thing would not charge. He kept burning out retifiers. You will have to make sure you use a 150 retifier.
He also used the bracket for the 150 and a single shock. But if you can make it a double you will be way better off.

Yup.. a 150cc with a 50cc rear wheel setup is a death trap...you need the right rear bearing plate and shock. It stops all kinds of weirdness and torque problems...
A few companies tried to cut corners and made 150cc like that...thankfully they have stopped or gone out of business...

Dude my Roketa was maufactured by Jonway, you might want to take a closer look at my pic. I think we have the same body style with different engines. Heck your wheels are the same as mine, just silver painted instead of red painted.

The silver rim in the pic is one i bought for the new engine, Haven't changed the front to a 13" yet but plan on it after i get the engine swapped over. Mine came stock with 10" rims.

Got a stupid oil cooler question for the scooter gods here. I'm pretty sure I know the answer but want to ask the experts. The 200cc I bought came with a oil cooler all ready attached. I'm Trying to figure out where to put it and the optimal place for my scoot is behind the front wheel with a rock screen protecting it. My question is, The lines from the block to the cooler Re just not long enough. They are pre molded houses with metal ends all ready pressed fit on. Can I make my own lines or are the under high pressure that i need to have hoses made up.

there is nothing high pressure about the gy6 oil pump. cut and splice using hose clamps. done

You need to cut the plain tubing with a good pipe cutter, then get some hose and do as benellibob says.
It looks like typical 1/4" copper tubing...
