Hello All. I am new to the forum and I will be buying my first scooter this Friday. The following is an email I tried to send ScootDawg but it kept coming back undeliverable. It was intended for Lee but please everyone please feel free to respond.
ScootDawg (a.k.a. Lee),
How are you? My name is Dave and I am from Boston, MA. I am 26 and I have decided to purchase a scooter this summer. I will use it just to have some fun and my girlfriend will probably drive it to school and work. If she really likes it I will probably buy another one for her. I have never owned a motorcycle or scooter, however I have driven them in the past. When I first decided to buy a scooter a few weeks back I started my search on the Internet. After visiting a few local shops it became evident that the Chinese bikes were a lot cheaper than their Japanese counter parts. Now I am a big dude (6ft. 230 lbs.) so I decided to go with a Tank 250. I did some searching on the Internet and I chose a dealer and my intention was to pay for the bike this Friday and go from there. Well a couple of days ago something told me I should do a bit more research into who I was buying the bike from and the Tank brand itself so I joined Scooterbbb.com and a Tank group on Yahoo. Wow and I glad I did. After posting a few messages it has become apparent that the dealer I was going to use (Extreme-Scooters.com operated by Dave Bergman) is a real dirt bag. I could not believe some of the stuff I was reading about him and you could not believe how nice this guy sounds over the phone. He told me he already had the bike in stock at his shop and on hold for me and that it would arrive in 4-5 business days and he would also overnight the paperwork to me as soon as I paid. I guess he tells this to a lot of people and he does not have the bikes in stock and they take a long time to arrive.
Needless to say I have taken a step back and decided to really research the dealer I end up using. I have also been reading about problems with the Chinese scoots. Now I know you are not going to get the fit and finish of a bike that costs $4-$6K and that is OK with me but I don't want a complete piece of crap either that is going to cause all sorts of problems. So I have also decided to look into the Tank brand a bit more and decide if maybe I should go with another brand. Someone recommended I check out your site on Scooterbbb.com so I did. I have a few questions if you don't mind. In my searches on the Internet I have been seeing the Baron People Mover 250 a lot. It looks virtually the same as the Tank and the specs also seem identical, however depending on the site the price is anywhere from $700 - $1000 more than the Tank. I don't mind spending the extra money if it is worth it. Do you know anything about the Tank 250 vs. the Baron People Mover? If not specifically those models what about the brand in general. On the surface it seems that the Baron might be a little better quality and have a better company behind it than the Tank. Also can you recommend any reputable dealers that I can trust that sell either of these models and ship to Boston, MA? Also any tips and/or advice you can give a newbie like myself who is buying their first scoot would be appreciated.
Sorry for the long email but I don't want to get ripped off. Any feedback you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I hope to hear back from you soon.
Thanks,
Dave
