Hey Guys, My front disc brake on my 2005 vento phantom is squeaking a little when the wheel turns. It also makes a scraping noise and the rotor appears to have a pretty deep furrow where the brake is grabbing. You can feel it with your hand. It only has 1500 miles on it. The front brake works and it does stop the scooter OK. Is the rotor & pad shot? How do I get the caliper, pad, rotor off & on? If you have the chance to buy a 2005+ Phantom my advice is to buy a strada or UM matrix instead

Well, you have to remove the wheel to get the rotor off and the caliper to get the wheel off!
Removing Caliper: First, remove the two bolts that hold the caliper to the fork. Once removed, the entire assembly will slide up and off.
Replacing Pads: On the back of the caliper there are two small hex bolts / pins that when removed, allow the brake pads to slide out. When putting them back, put a little grease on these pins to allow the pads to slide a little easier.
Remove Wheel: Remove speedo cable by removing the screw that holds the cable in place. Remove the wheel by removing the nut on the bolt that runs through the wheel. Pay close attention to the speedo assembly and how it goes back together.
Replace the rotor and reassemble in the reverse order!!

When I felt the rotor on my SunL Adventure the holes that had been drilled in the rotor for cooling had rough burrs around the edge of each hole. These burrs would be very abrasive to the brake pads. I used a dremel tool to remove the burrs. You can determine if the burr is entirely removed by sliding a single edge razor blade over the holes. If the blade does not glide smoothly over the hole there is still some the burr left.
