Good Morning,
I was surfing the web and came across Sunflower Scooters at a great price. Sounds ok looking at the spec portion but some of the claims sounds a bit out there.
Does anyone know about these scoots?? Sure would appreciate any input
Thanks and ride safe

Sunflower seems to have more problems than most scooters. I'm not sure if its the scooter or the people who buy them, but breakdowns posted on various sites seem to be high, although the description of the breakdowns seems to be odd, to say the least.

It's been my experience that often, problems with these scooters is directly linked to the buyer's mechanical ability. I always recommend that if you don't have basic mechanical skills (or the ability to learn them), you shouldn't buy a scooter on the internet.

My SUN L is basicly a Sunflower and yes I have had problems but as Dawg stated they could probably be sorted by someone with the ability to tune a carb. There is hope though this site has made me believe again I am confident that I will have it on the road soon !!!!

Quick thought You should take a look at dawgs article on the dealer expo I think if you look at the UM and the STRADA pics and read his thoughts you might get the impression that a few more dollars will save you some headaches later. I LOVE the LOOK of my SUN L but would GLADLY step up in price to a UM or STRADA if I had had the chance.

I had no problems with the dealer. The bike even arrived a day early. I did have a problem with the paper work getting lost in the mail. They sent out an extra copy promptly. The "manual on CD" is a complete waste of money.

Yep ... I think there may be some optimism in there. They do have a different airbox thatn most scooters I have seen. It is under the front of the seat.
If there is anything specific you want to know then just email me: lewtwo@bigfoot.com

Dawg I will post my probs soon. I am currently waiting for my financing company to determine if i am going to keep my current scoot or upgrade to a UM so in the mean time the wife and I have mutally agreed ( not really but shhhhhh I didn't say that ) to not put anymore miles on it. When It originaly broke it was right at 500 miles had problems before that but the major malfunction was at 500 it took them four months to get the scoot back to me I NEVER ( NOT ONCE ) recieved a phone call from the dealership to say hey sorry it's taking so long lets try to work a deal here take a loaner NOTHING !!!! I called them once a week at first then backed off a little to every two weeks. Got it back it now has 800 miles and is displaying ALOT of the same symptoms. When I get the word to either take it back or keep it. I will start working on it. DAWG or lew can you or anyone tell me if the muffler has any restrictions. I know most 50cc scoots are restricted and some of the bigger ones too but as far as The SUN L ( sunflower ) does anyone know? Dawg did the stock can on the UM have restrictions built in ?

NOW the fiunny thing is the dealer installed a "NEW" engine and during the four months O hell at one point SUN L shipped an engine that the dealer determined was the wrong one something about my rear end not matching up. now I have talked to the SUN L parts guy and he says he shipped a second engine HOWEVER the dealer never returned the one that "DIDN"T FIT" would some one PLEASE post some clos up pics of your SUN L SUNFLOWER whatever engine at various angles left and right side. any help would be GREAT!

The only restriction that I found were the weld bead in the pipe at the inlet and uncleaned flashing at the exit. I do not know if the muffler is restricted (how could it not be... ever look at the size of the outlet?).
I have to go to work but I will get some pictures up this evening on my site.

surfbum: try this link (just what I had handy). keywild.com/surfbum/Also look at the crank case casting, lower left front. That is where the serial number for your engine is. If Sun L shipped a new engine than they should have the serial number. Sorry 'bout your misfortunes.

Sunl doesn't exactly have the best reputation in the industry and rumors fly. The Pres. of Baron publicly accused them of using his EPA tag on their scoots. It doesn't sound like your dealer is taking care of you either. I sure hope your credit card company comes through for you.

ME TOO !!!! LOL but hey the PICS were great it is just the litte L shaped bracket that I am missing will have to fabricate something. ( BUT then I can tell people I am a Fabricator like the tuttles !!! LMAO ) I probably shouldn't be laughing at my own jokes HUH? kidding. I am a little tired still I work a crazy over night shift and got off early last night couldn't fall asleep till 5:00am beacuse thats when my body was expecting to get home. Spent all night in here ( earning my GREAT BIG DAWG status ) but seriously it is amazing how quick someone can come in here and post a question and get an answer. I am hooked for Life I feel really privilegded to be have found this forum while it is still so new!!!! I WILL always be a member and while I admit that at the moment I am scooter illiterate once I get the green light what ever scoot I own I am going to roll up my sleeves and get dirty with it, and share my experiences with others in here.

Got home from work and the bottom fell out of the sky. Not a good day for scooting. I have been lucky so far .... since I got the scoot, the truck has only been out of the driveway once (had to fill it with gas for huricane season). But I digress ... Since I could not ride I decide to do something I had been wanting to do. I stripped the plastic from the back of the scoot so I could get a look at the engine. I have not really found a good series of closeups of an actual GY6 engine in a bike on the web. Rainy days are not good for the camera either but I got a couple of pics (guess I will be on the "dark side" till I get it back together). keywild.com/scooter/gy6engine/Dawg: This will be a permanent location, but the pics will change (get better I hope) when weather clears and I get another 'round2it. Also feel free to download 'em and use then at your discretion. Rain, rain go away ... Its Florida: If you do not like the weather then wait a few minutes. It will change.

Dawg and Lew I would like to ask you to look at the pic on keywild.com/surfbum/ look at the twenty second and twenty third photos of the trans case. In number 23 All the way to the left just under the body panel see the SILVER RING that is the part I thought I was going crazy over !!!! Now look at # 22 see at the top there is a screw going through it to tighten it around what ever inlet that is. Mine HAD it before now it doesn't is that piece important!!!! I thought it held some sort of filter on it Or maybe it is a tube to direct air into the inlet I don't know but mine doesn't have one anymore. BY the way Lew those are Great pics of your scoot they already helped me spot another potential prob On the back wheel left side above the word long bo there is a rubber hose going ( 9th picture from the bottom ) through an opening and into the top of your case mine was just dangling and I routed it to hang below but will look if it needs to feed into something.

Picture 22 and 23 ? I do not have enough fingers and toes to count that high!
>> there is a screw going through it to tighten it around what ever inlet that is. <<
See the attached pic. Picture 1 show the rubber boot over the belt drive cable. Somebody correct me if I am wrong but I believe that is the air inlet to the belt drive case. Pic 2 shows the rubber booty by itself (note the foam filter).
>> there is a rubber hose going << See pic 3. Just a vent hose. My guess is it can go anywhere.

lew that was exactly the piece I was talking about !!! mine doesn't have the Boot thing ( i see a filter in it ) so is it bad that unfiltered air is going into my belt drive case? also about that vent hose I feel stupid it is coming out of the top it is just routed differently. I exalt you once again for your patience !!!

dawg that answer was short and to the point. LOL are you growing tired of my nonstop questions :-) . Well too bad cause I have got a million of them. LOL I really want to know everything I possibly can about my scoot AND others. I hope someday I can come in here and actually help someone with something as opposed to leaching info off everyone else. UNTIL THEN HOWEVER could you explain the easiest way to install a FLUX CAPACITOR on to a scoot ( If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits eighty-eight miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious sh**. ) LMAO
