I have a SunL 150cc Adventure. Love the scoot. I have been reading the scooter forums, and it sounds like it would be a good idea to have a spare CVT belt on hand. I read somewhere that Gates makes a good quality belt. Can anyone verify this, and if so where might I be able to order one? Thanks for any info.

I have one Gates non Kevlar CVT belt in stock (835-20-30). I am replacing these with the Bando non Kevlar belts, which are due to arrive at the end of this week. Unfortunately, the Bando belt is more expensive, so if you want a Gates, I only have one left. Stan

Stan, Thanks for the quick response. Like a newbe that I am I forgot to include the size of belt required for my SunL. It is a 821-20-30. Do the belts have any tolerance as to how far off the recommend size they can be? If any of the belts that you are expecting are my size I would sure be interested in buying one. thanks again. Lee78

The only belt I stock is the 835/842 length. I'd be afraid the difference between 835 and 821 might be a bit big for your scooter. MRP has one belt that should work, but it's only available in Kevlar from Polini.

Is there any data on how long these aftermarket belts are going to last? With the factory units going at 2K-3K it seems to me almost a necessity to replace the belt with one that will last longer. Do you get any warning or do these things just snap?

2 to 3 thousand miles isn't much. I admit that my only experience with belts has been Spree's, but those lasted forever. That kind of means we have to have one as a spare. Maybe replace the one I have now and save it as the spare.

Do you get any warning or do these things just snap? It's a roll of the dice how long they last. But when they go, they just snap. If you are riding a chinese scoot, chances are it came with a cheap belt that will last 1K to 3K miles. Some Chinese scoots that you pay a little extra for will have good belts. For instance, my Matrix came with a stock Bando belt. I think it's a good idea to pull the cover and see what you have. If it doesn't have a brand name on it, order a decent belt, replace the old one and save the old for a spare.
