Anyone have any information on periodic maintenance recommendations for the CVT? ie. cleaning, roller replacement interval, lubrication. Varator has started to make a rattle. I have disassembled it and cleaned. Is it normal to have to replace rollers?. They look ok but the side to side clearance may be a bit on the excessive side.

Yeah, the rollers will wear and sometimes get flat spots. I think it's a good idea to inspect and clean ever couple thousand miles or if you notice performance decrease. Sometimes gunk can build up and impede the free travel of the rollers. How long they last depends on the quality of the rollers and the riding conditions.

This is a bit off topic here but, I checked out the new chrysler Caliber yesterday, they put a CVT tranny in it. That blew me away, wonder how often you replace those rollers.

The CVT's used on cars are a little different design and I don't believe they use rollers. A friend of mine has an Audi with a CVT and he loves it. Engineers will tell you that a well designed CVT will outperform any other kind of transmission.

CVT's the tranny of the future. Smaller more efficient engines, tuned to a specific RPM range. What a concept!! LOL Scooter riders are on the leading edge. If they could just make the engine as efficient as my wifes Jetta, I'd get about 300mpg.
