Anyone know where I can get my "switchbalde" key cut to match my regular key? I'd prefer just to carry around my keyless entry fob/switchblade key insted of it and my regular key.
Thanks!

Edit: Can just any locksmith cut it?

You just touched on a little issue. Probably the only thing that burned me on the UM. The key blank on my switchblade was the wrong size for the scoot. Locksmith couldn't do anything with it. I don't use the alarm or remote so I don't even take that with anymore. Maybe they fixed it on the '06 models. If the blank is the right size, any locksmith can cut it.

Wow, that's nutty. I'll take it to a locksmith tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

Hmmmn, just looking at it, it seems the switchblade key is a bit shorter than the other key. However, it appears that the difference is in the base of the key and not in the part that they cut. Bah, I'll know more tomorrow.

*UPDATE*
I had the keys looked at and they are different sizes and one cannot be cut from the other. Oh well

That was one of my pet peeves with the UM. When I first saw the switchblade key I thought it was really cool. Only to end in bitter disappointment!

Is there any way to swap out the key part with one that is already cut for your bike?
Can anyone post a pic of this thing?

Yeah, you can't really tell from the pic but the working key is longer than the switchblade key blank in the remote. The one pictured is on that a locksmith tried to cut unsuccessfully. I'm sure that if one was willing to spend a lot of time and/or money......but it's just not worth it. Is there any way to swap out the key part with one that is already cut for your bike? Can anyone post a pic of this thing?

Being that the switchblade key blank is the same shape, but shorter, does it work in the glove box lock or the seat lock? It seems to me the point of having a key on a remote start unit would be to have access to a glovebox or seat storage while the scoot is already running. Otherwise you would have to shut the engine off and remove the key out of the ignition.

That was a good question. I tried it and the answer is no. Being that the switchblade key blank is the same shape, but shorter, does it work in the glove box lock or the seat lock? It seems to me the point of having a key on a remote start unit would be to have access to a glovebox or seat storage while the scoot is already running.
