Maybe that's what I've got going on, I posted the thread "This is weird..." because I can start up, rev up for a few seconds and then kaput... stalls and nothing afterwards, try to refire and it just cranks and cranks and cranks until i kill the battery or just give up. Walk away for 10 min or so, retry and she fires again for about 30 secs or so and then craps out. I guess maybe valves are the ticket. I just need a garage to do the work in, New England and winter are cramping my style

It's funny the lengths some people will go to to just avoid adjusting the valves. Usually if a carb clean doesn't get a scooter running, before I do any further diagnosing I check the valves. It's always number two on my list of diagnosing procedures because it costs nothing to do, unlike buying parts and trying them out.
And if you don't have feeler gauges on hand an aluminum soda can is around .08 to .11 mm thick. Almost exactly what you need.

I agree with qwerty but I check the valves first before monkeying with the carb. If it isn't the valves then you can check that one off your list.

I bought a 2008 model MP50-01 a few months ago from a fellow who didn't ride much. It had sat for a year. As a novice, I tried cleaning the carb, to no avail. I set the valves, bought a new $30 carb and have now put 600 miles on it in the last two weeks. Runs like a charm! I have no idea what people complain about, but it's as good a form of transportation as anyone could get for $450. Plus, it's a scooter!
