Happy new year everybody I have a black pathfinder I want to sand off this BMS eye sore decals on my bike and repair to black paint finish every where. BMS put a real heavy gel coat over the decals, any body please know how to repair to black and gel coat with a can? This is the most effective tool in removing decal's and other stickers and such. Used mostly on cars, but you attach it to your drill. Best used with drills with adjustable speeds. This will remove the decal and leave the paint clean. Most of the time this is all you need to use. www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/decaleraserwheel.php

Well I've used that sort of device to remove decals that were applied over the final clear coat......works good. But the decals on some of these China-scoots were applied to the paint before the final clear-coat was applied. So if you do manage to get the decal off, you'll be left with an area of paint without the clear-coat. It'll stand out like a sore thumb. You may be able to sand the area carefully and reapply a section of clear-coat, but I'll bet the end result would be disappointing. The alternative would be to remove the decal, sand it down, and apply a contrasting stripe or something to cover up the area where the decal used to be. Me.....I'd just forget the whole thing and learn to live with the decal (unless it was really horrible).

Yes BMS does put a ton of artwork (not really my idea of art) on their bikes to make them stand out. I do not think that you could easily fix all the checkerboard etc. decals around the front of most of their bikes without just bitting the bullet and repainting the whole thing.

Really....painting plastic is not much different than painting metal. The paint is somewhat different. Paints designed for use on plastic resist cracking better, which is caused by plastic's tendency to flex more than metal. So I've heard anyway..... Krylon for Plastic paints work well. There's also a Krylon for plastic primer. The problem.....you have a limited choice of colors. The clear paint goes on the same way. Just leave sufficient dry time between coats....and wet-sand the paint between coats. Surface preparation and sanding are the most important thing...white paints are about the only color that hides surface defects. Gloss black paints are the most difficult to get right. Think twice before you start this project.....painting can be a real pain. When I did a little touch-up painting on my Xingyue, the masking pulled up some of the OEM clear-coat. Pissed me off.....

I hate decals on my car, or my scooter, the worst is dealer decals, if they want me to advertize for them then do me right and ill be happy to mention them when the subject arises, but they don't pay me for advertising there store, and seldom em i given some kind of break in price..
Decals also sun fade then you are left with a crappy looking thing on your vehicle that's hard to remove with out causing some sort of scratch or other damage... Decals Noooooo I wont do it.

I removed decals on one that had a thick coat of clear. I was able to get a blade under the decal then peel it all off, took a bit of effort. Then I had to sand the edges down, repaint the base coat, it was black too, sanding took the paint down to the plastic. After I put some new black on, I did a coat of clear on top of it and it looked good,

This thread has me wanting to break down my bike, and fix all the flaws and paint it up all pretty like. Being a professional painter its going to look SWEET. Now I just need to come up with a color scheme and the money to do it.
