Have a problem - scooter will not turn off with key to off position or with kill switch. It will stop if I put the kickstand down. Starts and runs OK, just won't turn off. Have replaced the CDI with new one, but same problem. Where do I look now? 8167l

What kind of scooter is it ? Here is a basic wiring diagram for most scooters ( not all ), I hope this helps. I would look at the wire going to the kill switch, see if it's broken or loose.. If not then trace it back until you find the problem.

We know that the black/white kill wire going to the CDI is connected because the kick stand is killing the engine. You need to trace this black/white wire from the CDI up to the key switch or kill switch. From the key switch or kill switch the kill wire works by being connected to ground usually with a green wire. So basically either the kill wire is disconnected somewhere in between the CDI and kill switches or the kill switches have their ground wires disconnected. What make and model scooter?

I have a Baja SC50. The scooter will not start unless the key switch is on, but won't stop when it is turned off. Thanks for the diagrams, tomcas and larry001964. Where can I get a big image of each? 8167l

There are several diagrams here that you might find of use. diagramsAlso you might find some in the service manuals you'll find a link to in my sig line. Your ignition switch might be the problem too.

Hmm just sit on it and talk about baseball or finances to turn it off LOL it works for me when my GF does it. All kidding aside you may have to replace your killswitch or like others have said to check the grounds. If all else fails then you can easily make a killswitch.

Thanks, guys, for the help. Found the solution by wiggeling enough connectors, so it now works. I admit it did not make sense. Yes, the electric start would not work unless the ignition switch was ON, but the scooter would not stop if the ignition was OFF or if the kill switch was used. It would turn off if the side stand was down. Never did try the kick start. I have cleaned the connectors and taped them together to help prevent their getting loose again. 8167l

When I see bad connectors I usually cut them off and solder them together, cheaper and more secure than buying new plugs. That way I know they'll never come apart again.

When I installed mt perf CDI one of the pin connectors was bent, the scooter wouldn't shut off. I bent the pin to the correct position, problem solved.
