I have a new magnum 300cc. I can't figure out how to lock or unlock the seat. The useless manual says to turn the ignition key all the way to the left. NOTHING happens. is there an adjustment I could use? there is supposed to be a cable that goes from the ignition to each side of the locking mechanism. If anybody could help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah some of these scoots have a long cable that goes from the ignition key, to the seat lock mechanism. And yeah the cable could become unattached at either end. I was at an E-Ton dealer who was showing how it worked......he had trouble with the procedure, particularly with the key. And he knew how it worked... There's a possibility the unlock mechanism may be totally electric.....with an electric solenoid controlling the unlock procedure. Haven't seen one of those however. If anyone here doesn't know the exact procedure for your model, you'll need to contact a dealer, or start taking things apart.....

Yes the Magnum does have a cable on the ignition switch that unlocks the seat. The lock mechanism takes some getting use to and can be stubborn. First make sure that you are turning the key all the way ccw and NOT pushing in on the key. If it still doesn't work: Remove the 4 screws holding the lower center panel below the handlebars. Carefully remove the cover by gently prying up and and pushing the piece towards the seat. Release the tabs from both sides. (It may be necessary to push down in the center to release the locking tabs.) Next open right side glove box and remove the 2 screws for the top side panel. Very carefully pry the panel upwards and back to release the clips. Now looking down where you just removed the panel you will see the cable coming out of the ignition switch. Loosen the lock nut and lengthen the cable by rotating the barrel. Turn in small increments and test your adjustment. Jim/Owner Rapid Repair

Jim, wanted to mention that on my Magnum (manufactured Dec 2010) the Coolant was also in the same area as the seat mechanism. Talk about tight quarters! Was able to unscrew the mounting system for the coolant and move it out of the way just enough so I could adjust my stubborn seat mechanism. At least now I have a slightly easier locale to put coolant in besides removing the entire front cowling!

As an aside of this, one side of my seat won't lock down. I've even tried using a screwdriver to get it to catch and it won't. Ivthink it's just faulty. Is it possible to get a new one? How hard to replace? Who would I call for such a thing?
