Hey guys, I am looking at buying a 50cc trike, and would like to know if anyone knows about what the top speed of these are. I will be riding with my daughter at times, and need to know if I'm going to be able to keep up with traffic. The dealer say 40mph, but I didn't think that sounded right to me. What have you guys seen for speeds? Attachments:

40 sounds right. Were you expecting more or less?

I was expecting less. I looked at a 50cc water cooled Honda Metro (not a trike) and the top speed was 42. I figured with the extra resistance, and air cooled, this thing would be 30mph or less. Im just worried becuase I have heard of some of these topping out at like 28mph......and that wont do.
Also I belive this is an Ice Bear if it matters. Would it have the QMB139 engine?

Yes it is an Ice Bear trike. Roketa buys from Ice Bear then puts their numbers on it. Ice Bear is PST150S-12 and Roketa calls it a MC-126-50. As of right now Ice Bear (Huzhou Daix Zhenhua Technology Trade Co LTD) is the only one making scooter trikes ( 2 wheels in the rear ).
Air cooled has nothing to do with the top speed. Now saying that, a top speed of 40 is just that, a Top speed, not a cruising speed. You don't want to be running a scooter at top speed wide open all the time, it is not healthy for the motor. Also the pick up of a stock 50cc is not that great, and may cause a problem in traffic that is going 40mph, esp when you have 2 people on it. With what you are looking for you might be better off with a 150cc.

I agree, a 150 would be a better choice. I decided i dont want the added cost or hassle of getting the endorsment. That said, i would rather get a 2 wheel 50cc scooter than have to get a 150 trike. But if it will do 40, I think I could live with that. Problem is, around here anyway, no one will let you test drive them, and I would hate to pay for it, then find out it will only go 28 topped out.
There is a guy local here that has a great reputation, but he also wont let me test drive it (well he let me tool around the parking lot). The guy was closing when I got there and he said if I came back tomorrow, he would take it out, and see what it tops out at. Problem is, he could just tell me whatever he wants.... so I really wont know till I own it. Yeah.... I have trust issues!

If he tells you it tops out at lets say 40MPH, have him put it in writing and agree to take it back if it don't.

Make sure it is a real 40 mph, the speedo's can be very optimistic.

Get a GPS and see what the real speed is on your 50cc trike. I bet it much lower than 40MPH. Like others have said, you don't want to run it wide open all the time. Reasonable cruise on level ground is probably about 25-30MPH.

I would think a 50cc Trike would run in the 30mph range. It is a little heavier than your two wheelers 50cc scoots and some run in the high 20s and 30s. Many then complain because they want to do 40, then 45 and you can get there with a 50cc but you are then modding the engine for more power. So yes I would tend to agree with barnone that a 50cc trike would cruise on flatter streets at 25-30mph. But I do not believe it will get near 40mph unless that 50 in there is already modded.
A 50cc trike is good for in town running around where speed limits are 25 -35. Lefty

If you get or have this trike let me know how it does me and my wife were looking at the exact same one for her same color and all and I was thiinking that with the extra weight it has over a 2 wheel scoot it would be alot slower but im very curious not only about speed but also how well it runts etc

Be cautious of the trikes right now. Lots of fuel pump problems and other structural issues. Don't expect to go over 30-35 mph. Roketa is working on these issues with Ice Bear and a 2-4 month window on the fixes. I am sure that there are some trikes out there that have no issues, but be sure you ask the dealer if the trike has been tested...LOL....

mine does 50 mph alone easy I slide to the back of the seat for less air drag & it takes a little longer with g/f on the back but still 50 mph But no its not a hill climber Hint dont give it full gas Give it 90% - 95% full so it dont cut out on you fill the tires with nitrogen gas cost me 5 dollars a tire at a tire repair place change oil every 900 miles after break oil is used in 350 miles Plus break in that motor as it says too well after the 1st 100 miles i done 30 mph & on the last 50 i was doing 40 ps seemed like it cut out more on the last miles of break

on last miles of break in oh yeah friends with 50cc scooters rode & looked at it said the gear was larger then their 50cc scooter likely the reason for higher top end

Bodhisattva, Hate to tell you but that 50 is not doing 50mph, the speedos are way off on these things. Also a 150cc Ice Bear Trike out of the Crate will only do 50mph. Also just ask Royldawg on this thread he has the same trike you have. Lefty

If you don't have a motorcycle endorsment you had better check your state laws on MPH. In ny state it is up to 30MPH on a class B bike before you need the endorsment. I am thinking that some states go by engine cc's but not sure seeing states all have differant laws on this. Just something to check out to be on the safe side.

At least you are limited to 30 MPH on your new Milano 150cc TNG. I was so disappointed to find out i can't go above 30 mph!! Most streets in my town are 40-50 MPH so I don't know whether to stay on the street or move in the bike lane. I don't want to take apart my engine and don't know of any quick fixes. I hear about a governor...a restrictor exhaust...yada yada. I paid 1,200.00 from a student girl that paid 2,200.00 for it last year. It only has 200 miles on it...still new. Any advice would be treasured...thanks!

Curlyscoot Why would you not get a motorcycle endorsment and get something like the 150cc??? A 150 IB is a nice ride and not a bad price......I ride a Magnum 300cc and it is a fine ride but I can tell ya...the IB 150cc is also a nice ride. I almost got one myself...
I just got my motorcycle endorsment recently, the class and all was like $180..
The 50s are good little trikes it just sounds like you expect it too much of it...
Like Jim says.....thats my 2 cents...........

bodhisattva No fighting here.....we just want Curly to get something that will fit the bill..As far a speed, I have talked to 300cc trike owners and top end ranges from (GPS) 58 - 72 mph stock out of the box. Same trikes different top ends.......
I just have not been passed by a 50cc yet....

That is right no fighting over speeds , just letting people know that the Speedo is not accurate at all and also what to expect from a 50cc scoot and or trike. You don't want to get other people pissed and think they got a lemon or something when theirs are much slower than what someone says his scoot or trike does. Truth of the matter is 50cc expect in the 30s, 150s in the 50s, 250s in the 60s etcc, there are some exceptions to those numbers but very few. Lefty
