My guess is the clutch bearings went bad, there is a roller bearing inside the clutch that can become rough leading to belt failure and destruction of the belt due to high loads on the belt. Good luck on your repairs.

After 100 miles of riding I put the dust cover over the belt on my Icebear Trike 150-9. I got about 7 miles from home while enjoying the ride and I started to slow down. The engine raced but I was not moving. So I walked back about 2 miles to a phone and called for help. Got the trike trailered back to the house and found I had cremated the belt. I mean the belt melted down to nothing. It took out the pull start gear head that bolts on to the variator nut, it rounded off the teeth of the aluminum gear; the variator is toast and the clutch has melted rubber all over the plates that squeeze the belt. Something jammed and broke the belt allowing it to sling hot rubber all over everything. So I will be ordering a new variator and sliders, clutch, belt and pull start piece. Has any other trike owner had a problem like this? I was able to clean off the engine shaft that the variator bolts to. It was coated with rubber and would not allow the variator teeth to engage the shaft... I had ridden over 100 miles with the variator and belt replaced and only put the dust cover on 20 miles at the most. The CVT got so hot you could not touch it. And the rubber melted that is pretty hot... Any one have any ideas what is jamming or causing the problem??? Thanks Triker98304 Attachments:

The above picture is of the variator, clutch and what was left of the belt. Not very many miles from the initial install. Hope to be back on the trike soon. Funny how the nice shiny new variator is all black with the melted rubber right now. How do you remove rubber??? New parts on order. Triker98304 Attachments:
