when my scooter came for me to assemble, the assembly went pretty smooth but the speedometer made this clicking noise and the odometer would not turn. First I oiled the cable and made sure it eas properly in place. Next I just orderd a new speedometer and replaced it. That fixed the problem but I decided to see if I had a usable spare now. So I tore apart the orignal to see what the noise was.

the factory had put a screw in that was too long causing it to pull down on this gear.

Hey Doug, I know you've probably said but I forget. What kind of scoot are you riding? Good detective work on the speedo.

It is the immensly popular ;D, F-5 Coolster, One of those I bought it on Ebay without knowing anything scooters. I've found 8-10 twins to it, the speedo I ordered was for a Geely X-1

I see now the pic. I've got one just like it. Mine is a Venus Pacific FT502, but I just tell folks it's an X-1 to keep it simple. Mine has been actually a pretty reliable little scoot.

Lee, I another post you stated that your 80cc scooter had a top end that was not much different than the 150cc scooter, the main difference was in their ablilty to go up hills. Mind telling us what you did to the 80cc one?

Lee, I another post you stated that your 80cc scooter had a top end that was not much different than the 150cc scooter, the main difference was in their ablilty to go up hills. Mind telling us what you did to the 80cc one? Sure, but first I don't want to be misleading about the differences in power and acceleration between the 80cc and 150cc. With the 80cc, a little headwind or the slightest hill will have a much greater impact. Top end on the 150cc was around 54 mph stock. I'm not sure what my top end is on the 80cc because the speedo pegs at 48 mph. I know I've pegged it many times. All I did to the 80cc was install the 80cc kit. There are two different kinds of these kits on the market. One just has the cylinder, piston, rings and gaskets. The one I purchased had all that plus a racing cam and new head. After installing the kit, I removed an air intake restrictor in the air box and matched that by upjetting the carb by drilling out the main jet with a #60 drill. Then I tuned the rollers. Since that time, I've seen that somebody has come out with a performance exhaust but I don't know how effective it would be. I haven't seen Riker post for a while but I think he's gotten his tuned even a little better. Since I primarily ride the 150cc, I just haven't had the time to mess much with the 80cc. I've got to tell you though, that the difference between 50 and 80 is significant. This is what that air restrictor I mentioned looks like.

What weight rollers did you decide to use?

Right now I'm running 6.5 gr rollers all the way around. I find the CVT and roller weights to be one of the most fascinating things and I'm trying to learn more about how to tune them. The really experienced race guys will mix them up depending on what kind of performance you are looking for but they seem to like to keep the results to themselves.
