Ok, it seems clear that I'm 'blessed' with a GY6 50 on this scoot, my number two that my roomie uses. In a nut shell, a top speed of just shy of 30 don't cut it, so what can I do about this? Any restrictors/governors I can remove to start with? What about exhaust improvements? Intake is fairly easy, K&N offers a wide selection of clamp on filters that'll let it breathe easier, just have to rejet to match. I'd like to roughly get 35 to 40 out of it before doing anything major such as making it bigger, so what's my options?
Thanks folks,

Most of the earlier Tanks imported as 50cc scoots were actually 80cc. Since the big crackdown, most of them now are probably really 50cc and will be restricted to under 30 mph to comply with moped laws. I don't know how Tank does it so you will have to experiment. Some are restricted with the carb. You might play with the pin settings. They can also be restricted with a spacer in the variator, which doesn't let it close to it's full potential. Also check for a flange or restriction at the entrance to the exhaust system. Also, but not likely, it can be restricted with the CDI. De-restriction is a pain because there are so many ways they can do it. Good luck! Lee Ok, it seems clear that I'm 'blessed' with a GY6 50 on this scoot, my number two that my roomie uses. Hi I ride a 50 that turns out to be an 80cc. I have had a top speed of 50.1MPH And this is how I got their : 1st change changed spark to iridium. 2nd buy a UNI Filter it willl fit easier.(4" long 3"diam. 30 degree neck. second change you jets up one step for the low speed and the high speed jets one step. example mine was 0.035mm low speed went to 0.038mm and hi speed was 0.085mm went to 88mm. If you are a true 50cc then your top should be 45MPH or a little higher. And you should have a rocket getting to 45MPH. You see top speed is not my target it's getting to top speed in less than12 seconds. Think about it. Davejavascript:add("%20:D") Cheesy

Ummm, wasn't there just some links to instructions on deristricting the scoot? They seem to have disappeared.

The person who posted them deleted all his messages and left. Don't know what that was all about. Lee Ummm, wasn't there just some links to instructions on deristricting the scoot? They seem to have disappeared.

Or know of another source? I have only become interested in these scooters in the last week or so. I have been searching the web for these scooter sites and have seen the articles that deal with de-restricting, complete with pics. But... I didn't need it so I assimulated it and didn't keep the link. Google is your friend. GeoB

I oking for some de-restricting information and found some handy stuff, the ideas have been mentioned here before but here are some resources to consider. www.beedspeed.com/I found lots of parts, charts with specs on rollers, carb jets and manuals on this web site www.flexistentialist.org/archives/2003/10/28/derestricting_an.shtmlThis page has a lot of info on the variator, rejetting and de restiricting the exhaust of a Aprilia scooter www.chinesescooterclub.co.uk/default.asp?pageid=14I found a PDF file, two actually the second one was a more complete article, for de-restricting a Baotian scooter (whatever the heck that is) There where a couple other promising looking downloads like a service manual for a TGB, but I just got 96 blank pages when I tried to open it, if anybody has better luck perhaps it can be shared with the rest of us. OK, got it to open I had to update the fonts in my adobe reader, it needs a “classic Chinese font” I was concerned it would come back displaying Chinese characters, but it was in English, very worth downloading this 96 page manual, it is free. taishanowners.proboards41.com/index.cgi?board=mechanicalthis is another forum, has some threads that offer advise

Great links. Especially the UK club. A Boation is a chinese gy6 scooter. A friend of mine with a dealership in Indianapolis has experimenting with selling them.

I purchased the same kit from that guy about a year ago. All went well. They accidently sent the wrong cylinder and immediately corrected it.
