My 150-9 IB trike died on the road the other day. Prior to that I filled the gas tank with gasoline very carefully, as I over filled it the two times before. I left home and rode 6.5 miles. It DIED...And it still will not start. It acts like it is flooding out, you can smell gas after two or three attempts to start. I have fixed the broken air cleaner, and I will install the new air filter ASAP. I was waiting to do the performance up grades after I took the driving test. But that may not be an option.
Would one of you helpful techs have any idea what is going on. My trike has 603 miles on it. And I want to ride this summer...not fix it every time I ride.
Any body that has a IB 150-9 I need some info about removing the plastics to do the performance parts, especially the under seat pan. Thanks Triker98304

triker98304, Check and see if the Coil Boot came loose off the Spark Plug. It has happened to my Brother-in Law TWICE. I have had to go and get him going twice. I finally told him to bring it to my house and what I found was that the Zip Tie was not allowing enough slack on the coil wire so with the bounceing around and movement it pulles on the coil wire and it pops if off the plug.
The carb has an Enricher(CHOKE) so when its cold it is on and is letting more gas in. Also check the cheap SO CALL AIR FILTER and wash it out with soap, if its clogged with a lot of gas and dirty it is also causing more gas to come in.
Also more detail on HOW IT DIED. Did it Die when you came to a stop, did it die as you were riding it etc.. Alleyoop

Hey Alleyoop, The trike died while I was on the highway. It sounded like it sputtered to a stop. Kinda like it did when I overfilled the gas tank. Only it started back iup after about 1 hour. I had to trailer it home. I will check the coil and spark plug wires tomorrow. It is after midnight and I'm headed to bed. Thanks for the heads up. Check with you tomorrow. Triker98304.

Triker98304, Ok, I would also check if the Air/Fuel Mixture is still on the Carb. That happened to me actually I was cranking about 45mph and then it started to sputter and I pulled over and it died. But it would start right up and would die on me after going for about 2 blocks. Brought it home and checked it out and noticed that the Air/Fuel Mixture had Vibrated out. I was Lucky the spring and screw had fallen between the Carb and Starter. Fished them out with a magnet and spread the spring a little so it would put pressure on the Screw, reset the Air/Fuel mixture and all was cool. Alleyoop

Alleyoop. Thanks for the reply. I checked and found the brass cap on top of the spark plug had vibrated loose and would not tighten up on the plug. I changed the spark plug, coil and wire. It fires up and runs. Where is the CDI on these trikes? Gonna start putting the performance parts on this week end. Wish me luck. Triker98304

Triker98304, HAHAHA, thats funny cause the same thing happened to my brother-in laws trike TWICE while he was riding WITHOUT ME. He is not a wrencher so he called me and said it broke down I am here. So I grab parts, a CDI, a Coil, a Sprak plug, A Spark Cap, Fuel Filter, Duct tape and took off. Opened the access door under the sit and there was the Spark Plug Cap hanging out.
I unscrewed the Old Cap and Screwed in a NGK Cap into the Coil Wire and put in a new Iridiu Spark plug. Then two days later it happened again. This time I noticed that the Coil Wire did not have any play or give to the Spark Plug. So I moved the Coil up closer and put a new Zip tie and now the coil wire has plently of play that as bumps are hit and engine moving it will not pull on the Coil wire.
So check and give the Coil wire enough Slack going to the Spark Plug. Alleyoop

Alleyoop. it was not funny when it happened...But after the fact I can laugh. At least the circumstances made me start the performance part yup-grade. i need to know where is the CDI??? Please send me a note with the location... Can't seem to find it. It is most likely covered in black tape hidding somewhere. Then on to the sliders, exhaust etc. Thanks Triker 98304.

Triker98304, The Cdi should be right by the end of the Coil wire. It is a little black box about 2" long and about 1 1/2 inches wide. It is usually right by the end of the coil tied to the frame, or like on mine they have a rubber piece on the CDI and it hooks onto a piece that they put on the frame to hook it up to. But it should be on the frame where the coil is. Alleyoop
