I have owned my Ice Bear PST150H Trike for 8 months. In this time I have had to replace the air filter that self-destructed, the front brake master cylinder which was defective when I received the unit, the fuel pump which never worked properly and a cracked intake manifold. I found the parts of the muffler that fell off and was able to salvage it. It now has 430 km on it. If I had bought this from a local dealer I would be mad as he-- that he sold me this piece of junk. I am fortunate that I have been in the scooter business for 10 years and am able to keep this trike running. I regret that I let Wolf talk me into selling him one against my better judgement. The reverse box went out in Wolf's trike and he ordered a new transmission from Ice Bear through a dealer that still sells Ice bear products. His new transmission consisted of several rough cast gears and a couple of splined shafts--will post picture. I will attempt to rebuild the transmission as soon as I can locate new bearings (they don't come with the "new transmission"). It will be fun job with no shop manual. It is a shame that Ice Bear didn't attempt to market a quality product even if the initial price would have been higher--with the aging population in the U.S. the the market would only grow. With no technical support, no shop manual, and online sales I doubt Ice Bear will be around long. Most people are willing to pay for quality. In the future I will stick to selling the Taiwanese and European scooters that have enabled me to stay in business for the past 10 years. Attachments:

Mountainmoped, So what part went South. Looks like the part with the U shape piece and spring inside is the actual mechanism that moves it into Reverse and Forward. Since you took it apart DOES the U piece move Just a Gear or the Shaft which has the Gear? Alleyoop

Alleyoop, We haven't disassembled it yet. I plan to start on it Saturday when Wolf trucks it over. The parts he received from Ice Bear, while crudely finished, seem to be very robust. I was surprised that a "transmission" doesn't include the aluminum case with new bearings. I can heat the case with my heat gun and bump the back of it with a rubber hammer to remove the old bearings. The problem may be finding new bearings to fit. We will keep everyone posted as to what we find.

hmm
well this may put the purchase of the PST 11 on hold. i don't know i could fully recommend one to my mother
on the other hand, this doesn't sound so bad. except for the transmission failure on Wolf's bike. the air filter, muffler, and intake manifold doesn't sound so serious. some of these things can be taken care of at PDI time, knowing the weaknesses already. even an aftermarket fuel pump is cheap. the brake master cylinder is unfortunate, but it happens
how is the rest of the trike? how does it run, how is it on the road? does it "break down" or does it go and go?

Keep on thing in mind the 2010 150cc trikes are designed without reverse. Reverse is only available on the 300cc.

that is one thing i have in mind
my other thought is the trike is to be $2800 OTD, which is inexpensive. changing some parts during the PDI and more during its first service, and simply adding the cost to the "initial purchase price," it would still seem like a good deal
in other words if it can be made as durable as can be for another $400 or $500 or so, (including a new muffler) it would still seem a good deal, for what it is. a lone trike conversion kit starts at $2,700 with another $200 to install it. if you need that. plus the cost of a scooter.
and not a chinese scooter, because why should the kit cost 3 times as much as the scooter? so a "kit" trike would have to have a higher quality scooter on top of it. at least if starting from scratch. and i would think a 250cc to start. so thats a whole other project

mymomwhatsatrike, If you don't mind but $2,800.00 OTD, is that from a Dealer including the PDI? Reason I ask is you can get them for under 2,500.00 delivered to your front door or to whoever will put them together for you. Just asking Alleyoop

yeah alleyoop that is complete. tax, DMV fees, and the PDI. he goes out and makes the pick up himself. somewhere around 50 miles east of his business. i guess a lot of these things are shipped out from California, so local dealers can just go and pick up an order for their customers. he is also delivering the finished trike to the door on top of that i figure an upgraded muffler and related exhaust components, filters, hoses, brake lines, reinforce the chain guard (maybe change the chain, too), and swap out whatever else is relatively cheap to do with the PDI, and the thing should be rolling along best it can. and from there upgrade other things along the way from what i am reading in this forum most problems (with the exception of the trans) seem to be what i consider hardware related. nuts, bolts, pipes, and welds. and the minor things like filters, hoses, bulbs, etc. as long as no major electrical gremlins are happening, and the scooter starts and goes and stays going, i feel pretty good about it after reading these threads a bit more i am just taking into account everything, now. including all the info in the PST -11 thread that one guy made. invaluable info in there would be nice if someone put together a special "Trike PDI" (hint hint lol) which specified the unique problems associated with these trikes and suggested basic upgrades to assure the best reliability up front and down the road but until then i am piecing it all together myself

Since the IB is the only affordable scoot trike, I hope they get their quality control up to our standards.

mymonwantsatrike, I can only speak for myself and my Brother-in law which has the same PST150H trike. We ordered two of them and I ordered a Blue and He Ordered a Red and they only had GRAY so we said we will take them. That was after waiting 3 months and at that point we would have taken PINK if thats all they had Anyway so far we have had NO electrical problems whatsoever, everything works even the Digital Clock and Date Display and keeps correct time and date. Ours are the PST150H Trikes and they have the Mechanical Speedometer which by the way are very accurate. Around here the police put up those big Radar Speed Indicators that are on little trailers along the side of the roads to let you know your speeding And of course I always test out my Speedo There are TWO things that are really poor quality: 1.The Air Filter at least on the 150s. They look like chrome but are hard cheap Plastic and they get brittle and start to fall apart. The actual Filter Part is a JOKE, its a piece of foam about 1/2 inch thick and it is the same size as the Filter inlet which is about 2" in diameter. Now here you have to LAUGH it is held on by a wire tie like you may fine on a loaf of bread 2. The Gas Sensor Float itself and where its connected to allow it to swing up and down to register on the gauge. The Float itself is very thin cheap Plastic and may start to fall apart or take on gas. As well as the forced washer that holds the metal arm against the resistor Plate where it swivels up and down to register. It becomes loose and your gauge will be all over the place sometimes stuck in the Full position and or Empty position. I fixed mine, my brother-in law just ordered a new one. I told him it will happen again to let me fix it since he is not a wrencher but he always says "LET ME THINK ABOUT IT" so he is still thinking about it The only other thing was the early Axles, which they upgraded since then maybe cause I complained so loudly. But they did upgrade them to an extent and they did send me a complete new axle with the differential and everything ready to just bolt it on and put the tires on. But while waiting for them to send me the axle I managed to find what the problem was and fixed it so that it was usable. As a matter of fact I am still running with the Orginal Axle. But this week or next I will put on the Upgraded Axle with a new chain and new Front Sprocket and hope to have the New Muffler and Headpipe done and put on at the same time. Other than that my brother-in law and I have had no problems. We both have 2600KL which is around 1600 U.S miles, they were delivered on June 23 of 2009. My Brother-in Laws is all original except for a taller windshield and Trunk. I on the other hand have upgraded mine: Performance Coil Performance CDI Iridium Plug Leds for the Turn Signals and Stop lights and instrument panel Beeper for the Turn Signals 4-Way Emergency Flasher Relay to Stop the Turn Signal Beeping when at stop light while holding the brakes. Racing Prodigy Variator with 12 gram Dr. Pulley Sliders 3" taller tires Fender holders made Adjustable up to two inches to fit the taller tires Trunk Taller Windshield Mine is 12mph faster than my Brother-in Laws. Gained 5mph with the Racing Prodigy Variator and 7mph with the Taller Tires. Alleyoop

My PST150H has a huge LCD instrument panel that is very visible night or day. It only reads in KMH but seems to function well. I have had no problems with the electrical system.

When I order my 150-8 next week it comes with a free "6 Month Parts and 1 Year Engine" warrenty. Should I go ahead and spend $70 to upgrade it to "Extended 60 Day (8 Months) Parts Warranty with 3 Month(15month total) Powertrain Warranty"? Kinda sounds like I should

Orehor,
The warranty is only good if you have the tools and skills to fix it yourself or if you have a local shop that will work on Chinese scoots. Parts are dirt cheap--not so labor. Many shops refuse to work on Chinese scooters. Some lawnmower shops will work on them. They can be a good deal if you are willing to work on them.

Check the extended warranty fine print. My chain guard broke off and I was told that Icebear would not cover it. Long story short...they covered it finally. Many of the extended warranties are parts only...then the company that sold you the bike determines if the part is covered or not. Sometimes it may be worth the $70. Some times not. The maintenance parts, ie air filter, plugs and replaceable stuff is not covered. Alleyoop or Rapid Jim may some words of wisdom for you. How do you like the trike so far? My 150-9 is great. Getting ready to get more top end speed ( near future ) Shiny side up, rubber side down Triker98304.

Triker98304, If you want a chain guard, you would be better off making one out of GOOD and THICKER metal. The new will also break on you in short order. I just took mine off since there is not much flying around that area anyways. Alleyoop

hi guys i will be making the trip with my mom on Monday to order the PST- 11. it should be in and ready to go if all goes right by the end of next week. so i have a couple of questions in an urban city area in your opinion does the trike absolutely NEED a chain guard? i see alleyoop has removed his with no concern. i would think unless something actually became caught it the chain while it was moving it would be fine. and that isn't likely, i would guess also, any other suggestions anyone may have for the PDI, break in, and things to look out for in the first several hundred miles of ownership would be aces thanks guys

I think I'll just go with my original plan and "be my own warranty". I'm planning to open a savings acount w/ $200 then add $10 a week to it as an "emergency shop fund". I also plan to buy replacement parts before I need them. Since it's going to be my primary and only transportation, I cant afford to sit and wait for a company to decide something is under warranty and send it to me. I just want some sort of protection if something like the engine blows up a month after I get it, which the free warranty covers. If I keep a box of spare parts and money in the bank to fix stuff asap, then waiting for warranty parts to come in the mail wont be a prob, and can just save them for the next break.
And Triker, I dont have mine yet. If all goes well my truck will be sold next Wed, cash in the bank next Thursday morning, and order the trike by noon. If I get lucky the order will be processed and be on it's way to me next Friday. If I'm really really lucky I'll get it by July 9th lol...the anticipation is killing me.
