Not planning to scoot around America, but planning to scoot across America in the summer of 2011. I'll be leaving from CT. Will ride both hwy and secondary roads.
Original plan was to ride across the very northern tier to the Pacific, north of Seattle. But now thinking of taking in MT Rushmore and the giant redwoods, both are on my bucket list. So that will mean I have to change my route.
Didn't want to go through Iowa because of all their tornados, but may not have a lot of choice. Still working on the change of route.
Will probably do both camping and motels. Will probably take sevral weeks round trip. Any other riders in the northeast interested?

I'm finalizing everything and should be leaving soon. I'm still considering the direction. I will not be in any hurry. Plan on visiting National forest, and parks. Thinking on heading north while the weather is cooler up there. Still open

Thinking on heading north while the weather is cooler up there. Still open ...i'm doing a 400 mile ride this friday, with wifey, two up. she doesn't allow me going alone. me too,i won't rush it, just enjoy the sceneries, and get a nice hotel on our destination. let's see if a 250cc morph can do the task.hmm pretty sure. we weigh 280lbs combined, should be no problem. this is once in a lifetime ride. so cum'on join me! ..piccola, be careful when you get to Seattle, i understand it rains there everyday, at least that's what my hi school teacher told me. or i think it's just a myth. to be frank with you,,age does matter on trips of this magnitude, btw how young are you? , because if you pass by ,say El Paso ,you'll have to ride straight like 300-500 mile stretch of roads with nothing around,no groceries,no gas stations. just you and the spiders on the desert. , and the diamond back rattle snykes. be careful out there bro!

Still open its illogical for me to go on the type of ride your describing ezpong, i have too many obligations plusa child to disappear for that long, like i said a week or week and a half or two weesk going cross country would be cool and doable but not a year long trek around the country

Thanks for the post folks. As soon as I take care a some finale issues I'll post 1st direction and intent. If any of us can cross paths even for a thumbs up in opposite directions its a positive thing. Luke I won't be able to scoot that quick but good luck if you folks go. It only pretends to rain a lot in Seattle lol. As far as deserts might pass through mostly be very careful there. Rattle snake excellent lunch! lol I'm not kidding about that. I'm no youngster, but I'm not to wrinkled yet lol.

After careful consideration and planning I went with a Honda Shadow 600 as my Komoto was just to small to accomplish my goals. I have now traveled about 3000 miles and doing a small job in Seattle. The ride was awesome and I visited many areas that were beautiful. Big Ben in Texas was really nice. I am pulling a custom pop up camper and cargo trailer. I did go down twice due to front wheel wash but speeds were no more that about 25 so no real harm to me or the bike. Few scratches on the engine bars and muffler no big deal. I am very pleased with my rider gear it performed flawlessly. I am about to get some heated riding gear as well as I did hit some rather cold temps near lake Shasta Cali. Man is it ever pretty there. Hands did get a little cold a few times crossing the pass, I can't wait to get the heated gear. Planning to cross upper N. America as soon as the winter lets up. I will try to post some travel pics soon. Happy trails!
P.S My 2008 Komoto 250 is in Galveston and I would like to sell it. I put about 900 miles on it and it runs like a top. Email if you are interested??? Please

Way back in June of '10 I planned to try to ride across country on my Mod Quad, ('08 Honda Silverwing with Tow Pac trike kit) in the summer of '11. But due to other commitments, I'll have to change plans. I no longer have enough time to make the entire trip. So now I am hoping to ride from CT to MI with a stop in Ohio to visit my daughter. I will probably have to stay at motels and skip the camping option, it just takes me too long to pack everything up in the morning and get on the road.
The Mod Quad proved to be an excellent travel vehicle last year. Took it on 3 trips. Longest trip was 300 miles from home. Might take my little notebook computer with me and post while I travel.
