I noticed a Carhartt ad here today. They sell a pair of double-layer jeans. I've been using a similar jean by Dickey's. The front of the pant leg is about 3/4 covered with a heavy double-layer......definite extra protection for your knees. You really don't notice anything different about them while riding....they just feel a little heavier. These Carhartt jeans are expensive.....the Dickey's jeans I bought were <$30. I found mine in a large farm supply store in the county, but you can get them online. Well worth having if you have an accident.

I'd rather go with something like Draggin' Jeans, reinforced with Kevlar. But I usually ride in armored pants anyway.

There are plenty of options out there for jeans.....these double-layer jeans fall between standard jeans, and armored versions. But they look pretty much like standard jeans, and you really can't tell any difference just walking around. I don't much care for any of the armored gear out there......never felt comfortable in the things. That of course means the expensive armored clothes might not get worn for just casual rides around town. These double-layer jeans provide an edge in the protection level, and will probably get used quite often. People around here seem to always preach to wear the maximum protection all the time.....whether they actually do that themselves is open to question.

Draggin jeans are the way to go. The kevlar pads they put inside are great. Plus if you get the knee pads with the velcro on them, you can slip in a pair of kneepads too. The kneepads do work. It really sucks to have to hobble around for a month or so with a busted kneecap(s). Blue jeans last about 10 millseconds before the pavement reaches the skin.

I just got a pair of Sliders, and I like them. Nice, big kevlar panels in the knees and butt, good fit, and roomy enough in the legs to hide armor under. I am definitely getting more, including the khaki/cargo pants.

If you've ever taken a spill or two you'd know that leather is hard to beat for protection

Well sure....leather or armored pants are better than pants made out of denim, if you're scrapping along the pavement.
But almost no scooter riders wear that sort of riding gear all the time....however, a good set of double-layer jeans can be worn almost all the time, and be just as comfortable as normal cloths.
The few times I've come off and scrapped the ground.....I was wearing jeans. The jeans were ruined, but my skin was ok. I'd bet most of the scraping-the-ground incidents occur at slower speeds, speeds at which heavy double-layer jeans would be adequate protection.
Leather/armored cloths are better of course.....but only if you wear the things all the time.
