Hmmm...
VERY creative! BUT... If I'm not missing something, that setup puts 4 wheels on the ground, preventing it from being legally registered/licensed as a 3-wheel cycle, truckster, etc. And it couldn't possibly be licensed as a car or truck since it wouldn't have any of the restrictive safety parts and certifications.
That's why enclosed-cockpit bikes use retracting boogie wheels for stopping which allow the bike to lean on one or the other. You just can't have 4 wheels touching the ground and call it a cycle. At least not any place I've lived...
May be OK in some states, but I have doubts.
Any other thoughts?

I have a modified Honda Silverwing 600. I had an MC shop install a Tow Pac kit on the scoot. Since it doesn't remove the original drive wheel, it too has 4 wheels on it.
It was however already registered as a motorcycle, (in CT they are all called MC's by DMV), before the wheels were installed. The wheels are removeable. I am much too short to ride the Wing without the extra wheels. Wanted a larger scoot with a larger motor for long distance riding.

So I am hoping to give it a shot and see if I can make a superscoot I wasn't all that impressed with the dvd myself, however, I have bought $260 worth of steel/$200 pr of torsion half axles/$48 steel fenders/ and getting ready to pull the trigger on my aluminum wheels and 13" tires--another $280. It will need paint and only God knows how much I will owe my welder when we are done--- But it is an o9 Harley Dyna Superglide and this option will still be wayyyy cheaper than buying a new TriGlide. So, I heard from my welder tonight. ouch
Total for this project is probably going to be at or just above $2,000. Just so you know.
Not just the welding but total build.
$800 in parts $1200 in labor
wish I knew how to post a pic on here

Okay, we are at 58" total width-tire to tire. because we were winging this we went with heavy duty everything because failure at 70mph is not an option. It's probably overbuilt but I am totally ok with that. Tubing is 2" square steel with 1/4" thick walls. All other bracketry is 1/4" thick. The "Quike" is held to the bike at the front peg mounts/ rear fender rail, and laterally at the forward fender rail. Axles are 935lb torsion style from Southwest Wheel. Riding one up or two up the Quike feels very stable up to and maintaining highway speeds 65-75 mph. If this heat wasn't totally killing me I would have it sanded / painted and reinstalled. With the rear drive wheel where it is, wont that cause lots more tire wear every time you turn?

With the rear drive wheel where it is, wont that cause lots more tire wear every time you turn? Good question. Motorcycle tires are rounded as to not disrupt leaning into and out of curves and they tend to wear somewhat evenly. On a trike where your bike is not leaning the center of the tire wears out first. Because of this some trikes and or sidecar bikes switch to a tire with a larger flat surface much like a car tire. Since my rig is removable I will probably run with stock motorcycle tires unless I ever decide to just --not ever unbolt the Quike rig.

I'm not a trike owner but I think what the members here are doing to their scooters is awesome. On the other hand, IMHO, I think what the guys at "supertrike.net" really want is an El Camino. It's like they're trying to turn their motorcycles into small trucks!

I am waiting for my Danson trike to be shipped to the dealer (who is going to install it) where I just bought a Burgman 400. If you want, I can let you know how it works out once I have ridden it awhile. I am in Pennsylvania and I just called my insurance guy and he said he would have to check to see whether it gets registered as a motorcycle or passenger vehicle (or perhaps a new category? - haha!) By the way, the Danson "trike" kit also keeps the Burgman rear wheel, thus making it a 4 wheeled vehicle. I wanted to get a trike kit that would remove the Burgman rear wheel and make it a "true trike", but I don't think anyone offers it for the 400.

Tomfelock, There is an outfit in Florida that takes the rear wheel off and turns it into a true Trike. But it is very expensive I will see if I can find it. Alleyoop

My Helix with tow pac kit. I can ride in some ice, snow, and mud. I bought the scoot and kit last October when the prices were low. The kit must be installed correctly, and the instructions could be better. My Honda shop didn't quite get it right. I took it to an old Harley man who has built bikes and sidecars. Took him a half hour to get it right. There is vibration between 30-35, but that is the only problem so far. I went through some serious mud with it. Got over on the shoulder and the inside training wheel never sunk into the mud. Hope the pic posts. C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\A My Pictures\2010-01 (Jan)\HPIM3422[/img] Pic wouldn't post.
