A few pics of some of the places I stopped on 3 recent rides. I didn't actually take these pics, I got them from the web for visual reference. I need to get a good digital camera. These pics do not do the spots justice. Old covered bridge in the town of Andover. 2 strokes sound great rolling through the enclosure ;D Total round trip about 40-50 miles, but I got lost making it more like 75 miles A rest area in the town of Madrid called Smalls Falls. It was closed for the season when I went there last Tuesday, but I drove my scoot around the little gate and drove down in anyways and had the place to myself Total round trip about 70 miles. Today I set out on a trip out to Coos Canyon, a rest area in the town of Byron and it was such a nice day I decided to continue on the same route another 12 miles up the mountains to Height Of The Land, a scenic turnout that overlooks Mooslookmeguntic Lake, the 4th largest lake in Maine. Total roundtrip about 60 miles. Here's a rough highlighted map of most of my longer rides so far. Starting point is usually the town of Dixfield. I got the scooter in October mostly for next year but have got more riding in than expected, about 585 miles so far on the odometer(actually 943 kilometers).

I have fished the Rangely region many times, I love the area, can't wait to get back there in late spring for big brookies.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately it looks like my riding season may be over, snow is on the way. I'm already planning some great extended rides for Spring though, maybe even mixing in some renegade camping along the way.

Great pix. +1. Hey - I got out for a ride today. I thought my riding was done too! I actually got out today, December 4th and ran over 100 miles I didn't want to stop riding knowing this could be it for the year. It was 45 degrees and sunny, a rare day around here this time of year. No pics, but here's a Microsoft Paint rendition of me being chased by 2 vicious dogs when I pulled over to adjust my sleeve. They came charging off a hill and the german shepard almost got hit by a truck trying to get at me. I escaped by no more than a foot.

mel - great depiction. They warned us about dogs in the MSF class. I tried it when a boxer came out after me. Slowed down till he was close then rolled back on the throttle. The dog went "Yipe, Yipe" and ran back to the house.
Stephanie - welcome!

New to scooter riding. Have done about 700 miles. Still very nervous on 2 lane roads were speed limit is 55 and have a 150cc that just does that . What do you guys do when holding up 3 or 4 cars Jerry

You hold the center of your lane Jerry. What ever you do, don't move to the right! You have the right to the entire lane by law and if you let them pass, who knows what might come in the other direction. If the speed limit is 55, you can probably do 40 legally, but 45-55 is just fine.
We have a lot of tractors that get out on the 2-lanes here and it works the same way, we all share the road.

Hello Jerry, When cars and trucks want to pass you, I suggest you hold your position or move to the left of the center of your lane so passing cars and trucks will have to move completely into the on coming lane to give you a wide berth. My observations are that cars and trucks, when passing riders who ride to the right of center of their lane, will not move completely into the oncoming lane but will share the lane with the rider and crowd then. If you ride on the left of center of your lane, you have room to maneuver if the passing vehicle tries to crowd you. One thing about riding scooters, you always have to vigilant when on the roads.

New member here. This made me homesick. I lived in Sweden for five years. Sure enjoyed the area you have been riding. My joke while living there was.."I live in Sweden, work in Norway and shop in Paris". ;D Life and riding was good in the Oxford Hills. Now it is even better in Western North Carolina. Cheers!
