Hi guys!
I have noticed that there are quite a few problems related to getting your new scooter and it not getting any spark. I last year bought a lance GSr 150 from The Scooters Factory. Got the battery all charged up, did a once over on all the bolts, put gas in the tank and it started right up and ran great for about 20 seconds and quite!! It started right back up and quit again. Then it wouldnt start up again for like a day, and it did the same damn thing as before. So I called the scooters factory and they said it was most likely the cdi box. Well they sent me a new one and that didnt do it!!
Having trouble with a scooter that you just spent almost $1500.00 on isnt cool!! Since I refuse to let any machine get the best of me, I took out my arsenal of tools and meters and went to town on this 2 wheeled chinese headache!!
After checking every switch and plug and basically dismantalling it, I couldnt find anything wrong!! Till one day I realized that the scootersfactory wasnt going to return any of my phone calls or assist me any longer, I was going to give it another try!!
I went out to the garage and it started right up, yippee!! Then it quit, DAMN!! Well I happened to notice that while it was runing I went to sit on the scooter and the damned thing quite!! So I got off and it started right up again and ran fine. So I mounted it again and guess what, it quit again!! Well I figured that there was some kind of switch related to the seat some how or something. So I lifted up the seat to check to see if there was some kind of switch on the seat latching mechanism or up front by the seat hinges, but found nothing!! The scooter would start up fine and if I put my hand on the seat and applied pressure, it would quit!! This puzzled the freakin hell out of me, but i new I was on to something here.
Well I lifted up the seat while the scooter was running and started wiggiling the wiring harness, the coil wire and anything else that looked like it might be hitting the seat. The scooter stayed running perfect and by this time the scooter had been running 20 minutes(the longest it has ever run). I put the seat down and applied pressure to the seat again and it started to shut off so I lifted up my hand and it stayed running. Well I then noticed that pushing down on the back of the seat that it would stay running, until I pushed down on the front and then it would quite!! HMMM interesting!!
Well it turns out guys, that when I applied moderate pressure to the front of the seat, that this in turn was pushing down on the plastic that is below the seat, which in turn pushes down on the floor board. It turns out that the wiring harness is run along the right side of the frame rail as some of you already know and the wiring harness was getting pinched between the frame and the floorboard!! This was grounding out the ignition or power to the CDI box. I pulled all of the plastic off on the right hand side of the scooter(bottom right, below the floorboard) and noticed that the little metal tabs that curl around the wiring harness, are mounted a little to high in this area allowing for the floor board to pinch it against the frame grounding it out!!!
A friend of mine recently bought a Viva 150cc and he was having the same trouble with his scooter not getting spark. So I suggested that we check this same area and sure enough the harness was getting pinched here and causing it ot short out the CDI box. After pulling the wire harness down away from the frame the scooter started right up and he and I have about 700 miles with out any troubles!!
I would suggest if you are having trouble with your scooter getting intermitten spark, to give this a try. Let me know if this works for you!!!
