Hello Dawgs, I am thinking about taking my scooter out on my first ride through the country side. My destination will be the Warriors and Warbirds 2009 Air Show at the Monroe Executive Airport in Monroe, North Carolina. The weather is forecast to be sunny with a high of 66. Do you folks have any suggestions for a first time trip? Here is my planned Google Maps route:

Take a cell phone. Try to cruise between 45 and 50 MPH and watch for those drivers who are not watching out for you. Think like those cagers don't see you and you'll be fine.

Looks like about 25 miles? if you start to stiffen up, stop and take a break about half way. Watch out for critters. Like wf says watch for cagers. If you're riding back roads, be careful on turns. Cagers seem to like to take their half out of the middle. Pix - we need pix! Have a safe ride!

Dress warm. With a high of 66 there will be a wind-chill. I don't know what it is at 55 mph and 65 degrees, but it will probably feel like it is much colder. I took a ride once when the temp was 55, I found a wind chill chart that said 55 mph @ 55 degrees feels like 17 degrees. That my friend is cold. Be safe, be smart.

Hot coffee before you leave and pea breaks along the way. Oh and have fun.

Well everyone, I made the 28 mile trip both ways without a hitch. This morning was nice. Traffic was light. I didn't get going as early as I wanted to because my boss called. Lucky for me though; I got paid!
The twisty roads were fun and all the cagers stayed on their side of the road. I would have had video, but my camera shook uncontrollably. It is one of those small digital video cams with the lens on top. My mount was stable it is just that the camera is too light and not solid enough.
I'll post pictures of the airshow later this evening. If I weren't on a deadline to get to the show, I could have taken some roadside shots.
Headed for home, I left Monroe, North Carolina at 5pm and made it to Rock Hill, South Carolina in one hour. As that sun went down, it got a bit chilly!
My Znen seems to have a vibration in the suspension or drivetrain that becomes noticeable at about 45mph. I'll have it looked at during my next service.
All in all, it was a good trip. The ZN150T-7C is a firm riding scooter, I am not sure I'd want to ride longer than an hour at a time.
See you on the road!
-Michael

Good for you on your first "country" ride. I'm sure you will find them addicting. Have a bone, and come on over and join the Scooter Tag game.

Turtle - is your camcorder similar to this? If it is, get one of those holsters for a 2 way radio that has a belt clip. Turn your camera on and clip it to the top of your jacket. You'll need to edit out a bunch of crap from turning it on/off. Editing out stops helps reduce the size of your file too. I use Windows Movie Maker. +1 for your first! www.amazon.com/Jazz-DV151-Digital-Video-Camera/dp/B001F7MXJS

Interesting way to do it. My concept won't work with your camera. How about a "U" shaped sleeve that it slips into form the top? Either use maybe a longer screw to connect the existing + the bracket or solder the 2 pieces together. Use a rubber band for a little extra security.

I use a Sanyo VPC-C3 which is very much like yours. I mount it like this. Using two hose clamps around the mount and foot-peg. like this on the scoot. Just another angle. You could make a mount using a bit of plastic PVC pipe 1/2inch with a bolt thru for a camera mount, mounted the same way onto the foot-peg.

Kiwiscoot: That'a a cool idea.
I was thinking about getting a suction cup camera mount that I see autocrossers use at those types of events.

Just a quick tip: Isolate those cameras, using rubber or something similar. I fly R/C planes, and do a lot of aerial photography. My videos used to be very shaky, no matter how balanced the propellers and planes were. Finally, I used some rubber washers to use between the camera and it's mount, and the video was MUCH smoother. Here's a video proving it: vimeo.com/5366416
