Does anyone know if they make oil temperature gauges for Chinese scooters which would be installed in place of the dip stick? Motor cycles have them for their oil tanks! Just curious, if they do where can I obtain one? Bill

Sorry no go yet. You would have to install a oil cooler system and then put in an automotive inline oil temperature sending unit into the oil line. Then you could hook up a oil temp guage.

wf1761; I know what you mean. Stan jessup and I investigated offerings from one company to use with the Honda based CFMoto 250 engine. They sent one but the thread pattern did not match up. Great idea but apparently only available for cycles.
Earl, it is like a meat thermometer. The analog gauge is in the dipstick cap with the sensor in the dipstick.

There was a guy a while back. He took a meat temperature gauge and drilled a hole through a oil dipstick cap and shoved the gauge into the hole. But on that particular engine design, the oil filler hole was a straight shot into the engine oil reservoir. I am not sure if one would need to bend the gauge temperature tube or not on a GY6 engine. During the summer on Harley engines, I know the oil temp can go over 220 degrees F. I have seen some gauges read up to 750 degrees F, so getting a meat temperature gauge isn't a problem. I am concerned that the meat temperature gauge can't handle the wicked vibration levels that a little GY6 engine can generate though. So I don't know how long one might last. But they aren't expensive. One of our forum members had installed a oil cooler and temp gauge of some sort and measured oil temps of 160 degrees during the summer. scootdawg.proboards59.com/index.cgi?board=tipsandtricks&action=display&thread=1170354601

Will the same dipstick fit in a 125cc engine as a 150 cc engine? If they do I have found the answer for a oil temperature gauge! If not, well nothing is lost! Bill

And now that you know the oil temperature, what are you going to do?

I can monitor it in the hot climate of south Texas in the summer Before the oil boils. Bill

if it is a GY6 125cc engine, yes, you probably found it. Some of the regular motorcycle engines typically used a different size oil cap/dipstick.
