I've been adding scooting to my overseas trips.
This is a video of me riding around Vietnam last year. These folks really know how to scoot! ;D

That's awesome, reminds me of Top Gear Vietnam Special where they each got 15 million dong and a challenge to get from Ho Chi Minh City to Ha Long in 8 days (bought scooters and a bike), tried to cheat by taking a train and got sidetracked to Ha Noi by mistake. I have to visit there someday and try scooting there too, thanks for thanks the video!

It has lots of western comforts but is not tourist "spoiled".

Great vid. It always amazed me how much stuff they could carry on 2 wheels! +1!

When I served in Vietnam in 1970 I drove and old style US Army Jeep. Whenever we hit a scooter or motorcycle we painted a red scooter on the side below the door. We never hurt anyone but often had minor collisions with them because of the way they drive. When I left the Jeep had 4 red scooters painted on the side! lol

I drove around on Catba island in Halong bay on a little step through. In a big city i would never try to drive myself. I just paid someone and told them where I was going.

gmoney - try 26 tons of self-propelled gun instead of a jeep! They still pulled out in front of us.

I don't suppose they would know how to respond to a traffic light if they actually ever saw one.

I don't suppose they would know how to respond to a traffic light if they actually ever saw one. HaHa. Kidding aside the traffic flow was incredibly smooth and controlled. Lot's of traffic lights. Unlike the US everybody seemed to be paying attention! It is great to ride in a place where the majority of those on the road with you are also on two wheels.

Actually, their driving makes much more sense than ours. They respect each other. We drive selfishly, most of have to be 1st, and don't remember what we were taught in kindergarten... how to share. We have far more motor vehicle fatalities than they do.

We have far more motor vehicle fatalities than they do. Not true in every case but for sure in many countries. Some of the most congested places I've been have the most polite drivers. Or at least cooperative. If you have to "share" to survive it is good incentive to be polite...
