Scooting The Ozarks 2009 was a great rally in spite of having to deal with on and off rain for 3 of the 4 days. Now STO staff is making plans and discussing ways to make STO 2010 even better.
The Third Annual Scooting The Ozarks Rally will be September 15 - 18, 2010 in beautiful Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Riders of all scooters, mopeds to maxi, classic or modern, are welcome. The host hotel for STO 2010 will be Traveler’s Inn.
Not many other details have been decided yet, but you can join STO’s forum (see signature), see photos and comments about STO 2009 to see how much fun everyone had, and add your suggestions. Now is the time to note the rally dates on your calendar to be sure there are no conflicts when September arrives.

From the information on the STO web site, this rally looks to be a great one. Several friends of mine that ride motorcycles said the the Ozarks is one of the best places they have been to, great roads, great scenery, and great road conditions. I will be there.

Tressa, Thanks for the welcome, I posted a note on the STO web site asking if the rally started on wed. am or pm so I could determine if I needed a room reservation for tues. evening but by clicking on the right areas of the web site, I found the rally agenda and answered my question. I noticed that on the "Burgman USA" forum web site the Renegade Rally is also held in Eureka Springs. Do you know if their meetings have a similar agenda? I do not remember if they have announced the dates for their rally but I will check the burgman site often. It might be exciting making two trips to Arkansas this year.

Hotel ReservationsAs of January 1, 2010 Travelers Inn, STO’s host hotel, has become an America’s Best Value Inn (no change in ownership since Aug. 31, 2009). Website www.travelersinn.com and phone numbers 479-363-6450 and 800-643-5566 remain the same. Also as of Jan. 1, they are closed for the winter season and remodeling. Therefore, there is no full-time office staff answering phones right now. You can make reservations on-line using the form on their website. Be sure to include a phone number where you can be reached during the day so that they can call you (within 48 hours) to confirm the reservation. And mention STO in the “comments” box. RESERVATIONS

A new addition to our agenda - we are going to have a DJ Dance / Karaoke night, Friday night, Sept. 17. We will dance awhile, sing awhile & just have fun! Our own EuGene Smith has volunteered to host this night. There will be NO extra charge for this event. We have started a "Roll Call" thread here. I would like to encourage everyone who knows they’re coming to the rally to check in here. Just a fun thing & then you have an idea who’s coming & when.

As of Monday, April 5, Travelers Inn has only 14 rooms left. When Travelers is full, you can book a room at the Red Carpet Inn (Formerly Wagner Inn) and get the same rally rate as the Travelers. Jerry also owns this motel. Lou and I personally inspected this motel last year when we were in Eureka & found it to be a very nice, clean place. Lou has invited the local chapter of the CMA (Christian Motorcycle Assn.) to STO. They are going to set up a Hospitality Tent. They will bless your scoot for a safe rally. They have also offered to lead rides if needed. Start watching the Rally Ride board as Tim will start posting rides soon. The agenda has also been updated since I last posted here. Remember that you must be pre-registered for the rally before September 1 to be in the drawing for the Agility 125. And registration fees are prorated, so the sooner you register the better for you.

Jean Bartlow will be giving his Safe Ride Seminar and his Maintenance Seminar at STO 2010. Jean rode his Helix from his home in California to Eureka Springs every year for the retired Scootercade Rally and gave his seminars. Jean has added to his Safe Ride Seminar since I last attended, so I’ll be there to learn more this year. Jean gives a lot of information about choices you make before and during a ride that determine whether or not you will have a Safe Ride. With over 1 million documented miles of scooter riding, he speaks from experience, not a textbook. In his maintenance seminar, Jean demonstrates removing, servicing and reinstalling the front pulley and the clutch of a scooter. I don’t know which scooter he will demonstrate with, but the V-matic clutch parts in the Helix, Reflex, Majesty, Burgman 400, and the Chinese scooters are all similar. STO has also signed up Gary Sharp of Hwy 62 RV in Farmington, AR as a new vendor. He will be bringing some AutoMoto scooters www.theautomoto.com I look forward to seeing these 3-wheeled scooters “in person.”

Only one month until STO 2010! You have until the end of August to mail your pre-registration to Lou. You must pre-register for the rally, and be present at the drawing, to qualify for the Grand Prize drawing. Our host hotel, Americas Best Value Inn (formerly Travelers Inn, 800-643-5566) still has a few rooms available. Rally rates are $50 plus taxes per night. Since the current owner took over last fall, carpets have been replaced, new floor tiles have been installed in bathrooms, and other improvements have been made. Adding Jean Bartlow’s Safe Ride Seminar and his Maintenance Seminar required a few adjustments in the agenda. We have a pretty full schedule, with something for everyone, maxi-scoot riders, small-scoot riders, and even non-riders.

STO 2010 is rapidly approaching. Planning for the many activities is done. We’re just waiting for the day we finally travel to Eureka Springs and start putting all the plans into action. You can look forward to 4 full days of riding, eating, visiting, and more! AGENDARide maps have been posted. MAPS STO’s ride coordinator, Tim, recommends you print out the .PDF maps in color. He will bring b/w copies, but says the color maps are more detailed and easier to read. We will not be selling shirts at the rally, but if you act soon you still have time to order and receive them before the rally. SHIRTSRemember that Travelers Inn changed its name, and its sign out front, to Americas Best Value Inn. It is easy to find, right next to Pizza Hut. With over 100 pre-registered, this should be the best Scooting the Ozarks Rally ever. Looking forward to seeing everyone SOON!

MAN OH MAN! What a great rally. You guys missed it. I met some new friends and met up with some old ones. We had some INCREDIBLE rides that were 200+ miles through the beautiful Ozark and Boston mountains. If you can at all you should definitely make the 2011 rally! www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=231426&id=568009226&l=e30fb8d7f4

STO 2010 was lots of fun. There were over 100 scooters, even with a very few riding 2-up, and a few motorcycles in the group.
STO had great riding weather this year. Rained during the night a couple of times, but very little during the day. The guided ride on Thursday and the long poker run Friday were both over 200 miles of great Ozark hills and curves. There was also a shorter poker run for those who didn’t want to ride that far. Just one pot for the poker run, either route, and it all went to the highest hand (60%) and the lowest hand (40%). There was also a guided small scoot ride, and numerous ride maps of various lengths for self-guided rides. Thank you, Tim, for your hard work making maps, leading rides, organizing the poker run, and everything else you do for STO.
Nine vendors attended STO this year, with a wide variety of products to sell, from scooters to jewelry. About 15 people attended Jean Bartlow’s Safe Ride Seminar. Having ridden over a million miles on scooters, he had lots of information about the choices we make before and during a ride that determine whether or not we have a Safe Ride. There was a signup sheet for a maintenance seminar, but only a few signed it so that was canceled.
The karaoke on Friday evening was three hours of fun. There was singing, clowning around, dancing, and just plain silliness. Several of the “acts” had everyone laughing. Thanks to EuGene and Rack for bringing the equipment and running this event for us.
Many door prizes were given out at various times throughout the rally. Thanks, Marty, for helping here. The Agility 125 Grand Prize went to Kyle from IL. This prize was Lou’s idea and Lanny’s Cycle World of Hot Springs, AR helped make it possible. Thanks, Lou and Lanny.
STO 2011 is in the planning stages. The dates have not been set, but the staff will try for about the same time in September next year.
