Got up this morning and there's 3 inches of snow on the ground. I got off work around 8pm and another inch had accumulated. This is SOOOOOO depressing. And to those of you who scoot through this stuff, my hat is off to you. A little too dangerous for my liking. But, there are only 107 days until spring.

Come on up to Maine, got a foot yesterday and a few more inches today... it finally stopped this evening. It's all I can do to get around with four wheels let alone 2. Hang in there! Oh and a side joy... 175 gallons of heating oil today.. $575!

I wonder if they have knobby 13" tires for scooters? My ride has treadless lke high speed road tires that would be useless on snow, etc. There was a guy out of Minneapolis I think, who tested out a Baron 150cc scooter all winter. He didn't seem to have any major problems with it and racked up something like 8,000km or miles on that sucker. Even when the temps were down below freezing. Scooters with a CVT drive let you use your legs as outriggers to keep help you upright.

As if the snow weren't enough yesterday its already a balmy nine (9) degrees this morning. ACD, you got more kohonas than I do to tolerate a foot of snow. Give me a hot tropical spot any day.

17 degrees here in NE Ohio, not as much snow as in central Ohio, but a very nasty week. Our scoots are tucked to bed in the garage and I'm missing them. I have not been a fan of winter for some years, but now that we can't ride, I am really having some issues! Hats off to you Dawgs in warmer climates--enjoy. I'm counting down with geronimo. Tom

I had one year of high school in Canton, had relatives there, it was nice, but enough is enough. It's 52f here, heading for high 60s, I'm packing the camera bag and heading out.

Hey ACD I remember when I was a youngun and my dad used to sell fuel oil for 17 cents a gallon. Considering the USA is supposed to be the strongest nation,it sure seems like somebody has bent us over. I am presently stuck in Chicago 5" with 5" more coming tonite. My scoots are in my garage by Daytona, something seems radically wrong with this picture.

No need for different tires in the snow. I ride in the snow with the stock rubber that came on my Strada RX150i...no issues yet.
The only condition I really hate to ride in is ice. I've done it, and I'm sure I'll have to do it again at some point, but two wheels and ice just do not mix!

Took a brief ride earlier, but I had a light jacket on and started to sweat. Went back home, did some yard work.
Maybe it will be cooler and more comfortable later today.

And I complained the other day cause it was cold enough that I had to put the liner in my jacket! I can remember those cold days, tho---we used to live in New Hampshire. Art

Jacine, studs would work, but then I would need to find tubes to put inside 13" tubeless tires though.

Just because they are expecting 70+ degree weather here in NC for most of next week is NO REASON for any one living in the NORTH to even think about coming to live in the south with all us ignorant inbred illiterate redneck hicks... just stay where you are. Seriously, me and all my buds are looking forward to early retirement homes in Detroit...

Posted on Thu, Dec. 06, 2007 reprint or license print email Digg it del.icio.us AIM Like this Texas weather? Wait a few days BY BILL MILLER wmiller@star-telegram.com
FORT WORTH -- Nature is giving North Texans at least two more days to wear sandals and shorts.
High temperatures on Friday and Saturday will approach 80 degrees, said Jessica Schultz, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
But keep the warm boots and jeans handy for Sunday evening, courtesy of an upper-level storm system that was making landfall Thursday across northern and central California.
"It will trot across the Rockies over the weekend," Schultz said, "and it's going to set up a pattern in which cold air north of us will be able to drift into Texas.
"The first punch will come in on Sunday, and we'll see temperatures fall after about mid-day."
But, she added, the weekend will also include a good dose of moist air over North Texas from southerly winds off the Gulf of Mexico. That will pump up the chances for showers to about 50 percent on Saturday.
The cold front's arrival on Sunday, however, will add thunderstorms to the mix.
"The chances continue for rains Sunday through Monday," Schultz said. "But when we get up on Tuesday, that's when we'll have a chance for some frozen precipitation northwest of the Metroplex."
Travelers will experience icy weather the farther north they go, Schultz said.
Freezing rain will grip Oklahoma Sunday night, and areas stretching from northern Oklahoma to Kansas might see snow, she said. There will be a possibility for snow on Wednesday, she added, from Wichita Falls to Oklahoma City.
The weather service on Thursday did not expect freezing precipitation next week in the Fort Worth-Dallas area. Chilly wet weather is expected to last through Wednesday, with a warm up to the 60s on Thursday.
"But," Schultz added, "that's still a few days out; things could change."

Well it's still raining in Oregon but it should stop sometime in April, 2008. At least it's 48 degrees out. Thank God for dielectric grease!

I know Gary and, yes, the Kendas did work fine. Unfortunately, when Spring arrived, the damage done by salt and slush became obvious. The frame and other metals on that scooter were terribly corroded. The scooter is no longer in service.
Gary acheived his dream of a Vespa 250 GT this past year and vows he will never do to it what he did to the Baron. He is NOT riding this winter.
Scooters prefer a low-sodium diet. ScootinDan
