Woke up this morning to find that my scooter is not exactly where I left it...and is in fact no where in sight. It disappeared sometime after I parked it last night. Front wheel lock is ineffective in keeping people from stealing scooter. This is what I've learned today.
Luckily I'm insured. Has anyone had to deal with the insurance claim involved with vehicle theft? How long does it take to get a check from the company to replace it? My scooter is/was my main vehicle and I'd like to get a new one as soon as I can.
I feel like I should be making a little memorial headstone for the scooter. I miss it. The next one will be locked, alarmed, and probably chained to something completely immobile.
Advice for dealing with the insurance company?

If it is found it will likely be all ragged out. Your problem is exactly why I left town almost 25 years ago, bought a piece of land and put a mobile home on it. Later on we built a house for my daughters family. We don't even need to lock the doors out here.

I don't know how many people watch that page, but expecially if you have any pics, I'd put it on the stolen scooter registry page. scoot.net/stolen/

A guy on BurgmanUSA had his Burgman stolen on Thursday night. He lives somewhere in Texas. I'm glad we keep ours in the garage.

Bunnii: That is rotten news. I pray for you! Insurance can be a hassle but I hope it works out for you. May take some patience. Do register it as stollen. Hope you've got all your paperwork and some pics, I am sure you do, it may help. We are kind of like Swamp there. We live in the country (always have) and things are pretty peaceful here but our scoots are locked and garaged never the less. Chain and cable locks in the trunks for when we are away from home too. Good luck, Tom

Sorry to hear about your loss. I know xactly how you feel ,had mine stolen last June. Although unlike mine yours was insured, hope it doesn't take too long to settle The steering lock isn't much of a deterrant, especially for a lil scoot. My steering was locked and she was locked on my front porch, with a hefty cable. If some lowlife wants it bad enough, they'll find a way to take it. I keep my scoots inside since then and when its outside my alarm is armed. If they are stupid enough to try again. I wont hesitate to open fire on em. Their next scooter will be a four wheeled one like a hoverround!!!!!

It was reported within 15 minutes of my discovering it not there...police report filed and all that. I'll receive the insurance paperwork next week. They said it usually takes about a month to get everything settled. I don't imagine it'll be recovered...the cops and the insurance agent pretty much said "yeah, not gonna get recovered but we do the investigation crap anyway"...but in much nicer terms. They said they go to a third party for an appraisal based on the information regarding the scooter at time of theft.
Any idea what they might give me? It only had 400 miles on it (i did a km conversion to figure that out) but it's last year's model (06) and had a crack in the front body panel. The msrp of it, new, is $1995.
The sad thing about it being the body style it is, is that if you take the plate off, you wouldn't know it's a 150 rather than a 50 so it could go forever without anyone noticing it. I hope whoever stole it majorly injures themselves on it. I don't understand how someone can have the moral deficiency to steal someone's vehicle.
I wish I had access to a garage to keep it in. The next one will have an alarm installed and a big chain lock of doom from lowes. I'm not going through this sh!t again.

Sorry to hear that. It really upsets me, but what can one do. Maybe they'll screw it up trying to break the steering lock or something. So then they get stuck with a boat anchor.

I bet you have a deductible like $500.00 or a $1,000.00 , by the time the insurance company deducts your deductible and the deprecation you will have only a small settlement left..

$50 deductible. It's negligible, thankfully. I'm a good 20 minutes away from durham. In a rather nice community. I want a garage.

Sorry to hear about this, I know how it feels, and I also know that they can turn up. My mate's Zuma was stolen from our upscale 'secure' apartment complex in broad daylight almost two years ago. About 2 months ago I got a call from the Cocomino Sheriff's office some 3 hours from here saying that they recovered it and got who stole it. Do to various things I've not yet gotten it back (gotta call them tomorrow), but I'm hoping to.

wow...that long after? I doubt I'd be able to keep it if they recovered it after the insurance goes through cause I have to give the insurance company the title in exchange for a check...but if it gets recovered, there had better be a sizable punishment for the bastard who took it. I don't know enough about law to know what they do when people get caught in those situations...but I hope at least something is done.

IN my case, insurance didn't cover it. As to the crime, grand theft auto basically, so they'll get some time. Amazing to me is where it turned up, after all, that's a 50cc scooter, and yet its hundreds of miles from home up in the mountains.

Hey Miss Bunnii; Have you talked to your dealer in Greensboro about all this ...they may well help you out & negotiate a much better price on another Scoot...Hold your ground & "Negotiate"...you got a little time so put the "Ball in Your Court"...because it is right now. You will surely find out if you are dealing with "Good Guys" or otherwise. Like Ronald Reagon once said..."Trust but Verify"...works best in everyday life events. Hang in There...........just "Bob" in Garner

I just called them today. They have a yellow version of it and I'll probably try and get it a little lower (they said they'd give me the same deal) since it's definitely not my first choice in color. Basically this will be a matter of "convince me not to buy the lance 150 from scootersfactory."
Thanks for your support guys. Still waiting on the paperwork.

My friend had a Yamaha TW200 stolen from his front yard. About 2 years later he got a call from the City saying they had it. And they had recovered it over 6 months ago... But they could not find the vin on it.. They bad guys had painted over it... but it was still there.. the cops did not look too hard.
The sucky thing is my friend had to pay the $600 "storage fee" to the city to get it back... even though it was "stored" for such a long time because they failed to do there jobs right.
He got the bike back.. motor blew up shortly after.
Just sucked all around. But as the other person said you could get it back eventually.
Good luck with the insurance co. Ken

I would never get it back because if it is recovered after I get my insurance check, the title will be already transferred to the insurance company. You have to give them the title to get the insurance money to prevent insurance fraud. You're basically selling the title to the insurance company for the price the bike would have been "worth" to them.
I just hope it all gets resolved soon because the dealer I got the first one at has another one like mine, but I can't commit to buying it until I know if the insurance will give me enough.

Best wishes to you. It is always infuriating when a low life thinks they are the only people in the world that matter and rob good hard working people of their belongings. I saw a novel idea for recovery of stolen scooters on another forum. A member installed a GPS tracked cellular phone inside the body of the scooter, I think behind a panel under the handle bars. It is wired into the electrical system to keep it charged and put on a silent mode that automatically answers so that any noises can be heard, as well as being able to locate it through the GPS tracking. Here is a link to the forum page. visforvoltage.org/forum/2363-xm2000-gps-tracking-has-been-enabled

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Best of luck on a quick settlement with the insurance company. My sad story: When my old Vento Triton was stolen I didn't have insurance , but I did my own investigating (read: drove all over the city till I saw a yellow scoot hidden behind a house) and actually caught the guy who stole it. I called the cops, they came, and then get this...b/c the VIN was filed off by the perp they said he could just as easily say it was his and my title couldn't necessarily prove it was mine. My alarm/keyfob still turned the alarm on/off and activated the remote start!!! Needless to say I was a little peeved with the Hickory PD. Then almost 2 yrs later I get a phone call that they busted the guy for several thefts and my scoot is available for me to pick up (of course it had no plastics, no electrical, and was basically a frame and wheels). Hope you have better luck!

I doubt mine will be recovered. I didn't even bothering hoping it would be. I still look in the bike racks everytime I see some parked, and pay attention to the ones on the road...just in case, but I doubt it'll be recovered. Considering where I live, whoever took it probably sold it for parts or has it somewhere to sell it later.
I feel so bad for people who aren't/weren't insured. I can't imagine how painful it would be to have nothing to back you up if it's stolen. My scooter was paying for itself in gas money, but I had taken the money out of savings to pay for it. Were it not for the insurance, I'd have had a nervous breakdown.
